Ground chuck
Fresh sesame seed kaiser roll.

Never bacon for me. It detracts from the flavor of beef. If I put
anything on it, I choose a decent mustard, onion and lettuce (*not*
head lettuce) - it will be either roasted garlic or avocado - tomato
is optional on my hamburger.

Avocado is good - it helps lower bad cholesterol!

I'm still exploring mustard. A good substitute for mayo if one is
trying to lower meal fat content.

It makes a wonderful marinade for grilling.

I love fresh basil! I've been making salads a lot lately. Last night the
caprese, tonight I had one of my "kitchen sink" salads. Included were
some sprouts, basil, french breakfast radishes, slivered almonds, and
because you mentioned it yesterday -- dried cranberries! I had a little
chunk of feta cheese left, so I crumbled that over the top. I had
leftover dressing from the day before and it worked well.

Well, we generally eat each batch in 3 to 4 days or so as I constantly
have a quart jar or two going.

I just continue to rinse them every day and bag them in a storage bag.
They seem to be actually staying alive. The ones I put in the cockatoos
dish keep growing. <g>

It does, and a perfectly ripe avocado goes well with so many things.
The first thirty-some years of my life were lived w/o avocados. I saw
them as green (therefore suspect) and slimy. Since the first time I
tried guacamole, under the influence of general anesthesia and beer,
I've been avocado crazy. I've never put it on a burger, but it has
been right next to a burger on many occasions.

Really though, nothing fits on a homemade burger other than mustard,
and it's easier to alternate bites with vidalia onions, half sour dill
pickles, whatever. Damn. I just realized that I left an avocado at
work, and I'm not scheduled to be back there until Thursday.

Choose your bun type.

About a teaspoon of Cholula hot sauce mixed into each burger, depending on
size, prior to cooking.

From the bottom up...

Toasted bun
Dijon mustard
Avocado slices (mash them into English muffin [if chosen] nooks and
crannies)
Burger
Striped Monterey Jack cheese
Mild green chile strip
Top bun

Salt & pepper to taste

Optional: A couple red onion rings (can become unwieldy, as if it's not
already!

A Most Excellent burger.

How does bacon detract from the flavor of the beef, but mustard,
onion and garlic don't?

Bacon goes great with ground beef. It does not belong on steak,
though.

If I had sprouts, I'd eliminate the lettuce. Have you ever tried
it with good cheese instead of bacon (Jarlsberg is my go to cheese for
this)? Delish!

Just as important as rinsing them is making sure you drain the excess
water thoroughly so the sprouts don't rot. That can take a bit of
patience, but the results are well worth the extra effort.

BTW - that applies to sprouting your own seeds as well. I used to keep
three mason jars of alfalfa sprouts going in rotation to supply the
entire family when the kids were still at home. I'd also sprout mung
beans on occasion. But I could never get them to grow as well as the
store bought one.

Bacon wrapped steak fillet is very good and I also like bacon with
burger and avocado, but to each her own. :-) It also goes well with
shrimp kebabs or beef kebabs.

And I agree with your sig. :-) My cooking has improved drastically
since I've started religiously using timers!

I know what you mean about the mung beans. There is advice on some of
the sprouting sites about that. It's a matter of keeping them in the
dark and not overloading the jar.

To date, one of my favorite sprouts is Lentil. They taste similar to
alfalfa imho. I love Alfalfa but I have to go to Austin to get the
seeds... and I hate the traffic. :-(

Thanks My house/home would've burned down a long time ago if I don't
use my timer ! Even when I turn the stove on (or even the oven !), I
use the timer, lest I forget.
