Default Cooking shows.

I've just had Foxtel cable/satellite installed, and there are a plethora of
cooking shows to be watched. Along with On Demand shows, and Box Office
movies..... I think the computer is going to start feeling a little lonely

You're a little late in coming to Foxtel, aren't you, Pete....I've had it on
now for probably coming up 12 years now...I connected 2 months after it
started...(under ground cable)

It costs me a small fortune each month...$141 month!! (and it goes up to
$146 in a couple of months)....

I like watching 'Bizarre Foods' on one of the lifestyle channels.... (646
cable No)

Perhaps the dozen fosters for breakfast fogged you abit. Can you not
pick and choose what channels or theme groups you want to subscribe
to, rather than having to pay for everything else you may not want?

I have satellite TV and find the marketing schemes annoying. I have to
get the basic Canadian networks, and that includes at least two of each
of the American networks, including PBS (Boston... not the closes one).
You can subscribe to the other specialty channels individually or in
bundles and they have a strange way of bundling them. For some reason
the History channel is in a bundle with BBS news, which I like, but
includes Fox news <?> , which is IMO an abomination. Comedy (East and
West) are bundled with children's cartoon channels. Drive In (movies) is
bundled with the Sex channel and the Military Channel. Food Channel is
bundled with a number of channels geared toward women.

Basically, they take one or two good channels and bundle them with a
bunch of losers that you will never watch we are sucked into thinking
that it is a good deal to get all those extra stations even though we
never watch them. Frankly, I am getting fed up with some of the primary
channels in the bundles because they have such a limited number of shows
which are aired several times each day and recycled every month or two.
For instance, the Military channel has some good programs, and you never
have to worry about missing a show because it will be on at least four
times each day, and likely to be repeated the next day, a few days later
and then all again the next week. History channel has very few history
programs. For instance, the History lineup for today includes, NCIS,
Outlaw Bikers, MASH, Ice Road Truckers, Masterminds and Sea Hunters.

I don't buy cable or satellite. The only things I'd want are HBO,
ESPN, Cartoon Network and Comedy Central. Maybe The Weather Channel
too.

The nice thing here is that "if" we don't want all the other garbage
included in the theme group we can subscribe just to the channel we
want for $1.99 a month, instead of the $3.99 or $4.99 for the theme
group of four or five channels.

I never used to watch much television when I had only an antennae
because most of the network programming was crap and I live in an area
with poor reception. I started watching more when I had the specialty
channels. Some of the better network programs started showing up on
specialty channels, and there are movie networks with some good movies
on, some without commercials. Unfortunately, the satellite companies
have figured out ways to bundle their programming so that you pay for
the bundle in order to get one particular channel and end up with 5 or
more other channels that you never watch.

I have every channel 'BAR THE'... Foreign language channels and the 2 Adult
Channels, ....I also chose to give the HD 'Sports' channels a miss as I
already have them in normal digital channels, and I am not really a sports
watcher... So normal digital is OK for that...I have always had 2 boxes in
different parts of my house (downstairs and upstairs)... Now I have them
both downstairs!.... I also have the most advanced and latest IQ2 boxes as
well.... The extra $5 that's looming up is where I have a special deal for
12 months of $5 instead of $10 a month for one of the IQ boxes! .... I never
use 'Special Events' feature as it costs too much for just one show
etc......... I only ever use the 2 latest video movies available for free
each month on my plan (and most of the time, not even those!), So I never
pay extra for video's...

Sydney, Australia......(different State to Peter in Brisbane)....

You can't actually 'pick' an individual channel (with only a couple of
exceptions), you pick them in groups of channels unfortunately, as I never
watch quite a few of the available channels... Usually, I like a couple of
particular channels and don't want to loose them, so I have to take the Good
with the bad!..

Yeah. Up till now I've been quite busy. Never really had the time to sit
down and watch TV for more than a couple hours of a night time.

But...... with a couple of operations looming, and thinking maybe it's
time I did slow down a bit..... and plus the fact that we have a u-beaut
new 53" FullHD LCD TV........ I thought it might be time to join the
Foxtel IQ family :-)

Now if they only had a Wine channel!!

LOL!! Last night on the history channel we had nothing but Military!!

There was a show on the 43 female Nursing sisters that went to Vietnam, then
a show on the WW1 Naval assault on the (water)channel leading into Brugges
which was being used as a home base for German subs.
