Read it a little more carefully. My initial comment was :

"I don't put anything on there that I would be embarrassed for people to
see, but I have unfriended a number of people who post too much stuff on
it."

I didn't attach any names to it. Then Carol posted:

" On Sun, 07 Jun 2009 19:58:09 -0400, Dave Smith
> wrote:

> >I don't put anything on there that I would be embarrassed for people to
> >see, but I have unfriended a number of people who post too much

stuff on
> >it.

Carol, deleted"

And then she posted:
"I'm not sure I understand why you guys feel the need to announce to
the world that you're getting rid of extra baggage on Facebook. I
truly hadn't noticed that either of you were missing from my friend's
list until you mentioned something. Why go out of your ways to try to
hurt people? "

So, as you can see, I said that no one would have known that it was her
if she had not announced it.

It was not meant to hurt her or anyone else. I referred only to people
who IMO posted too much stuff on FaceBook. I don't need to know that
much about my FB friends. I don't want to go to FB and find hourly
updates by a small number of people just too much information for me and
I would prefer to limit the amount of stuff I have to see there.

You can mark yourself offline so that isn't a problem. I never chat on FB.
I'm marked offline and noone sees me.

How long have you been on this group? 10 years? Longer? I've only been
here for 4 years and even *I* know that mentioning
killfiling/unfriending anybody (even without mentioning any names)
usually causes a ruckus.

Good job you didn't mention any private email lists either...

I belive that the sole reason why Facebook has supplanted MySpace is
that Newscorp bought MySpace, and so many people hate Newscorp/Fox
News/Rupert Murdoch that when they had an alternative they took it. I
like MySpace's format and functionality better than Facebook's, and
I'm among those who hate Newscorp/Fox News/Rupert Murdoch.

I was never interested in joining MySpace and I have even less interest
in joining Facebook. BTW, Have you read Facebook's Terms of Use?

I especially like this bit:

http://www.facebook.com/terms.php

<quote>

Sharing Your Content and Information

You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you
can control how we share your content through your privacy and
application settings. In order for us to use certain types of content
and provide you with Facebook, you agree to the following:

1. For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like
photos and videos ("IP content"), you specifically give us the
following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings:
you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable,
royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on
or in connection with Facebook ("IP License"). This IP License ends
when you delete your IP content or your account (except to the extent
your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted
it).
2. When you delete IP content, it is deleted in a manner similar to
emptying the recycle bin on a computer. However, you understand that
removed content may persist in backup copies for a reasonable period of
time (but will not be available to others).
3. We always appreciate your feedback or other suggestions about
Facebook, but you understand that we may use them without any
obligation to compensate you for them (just as you have no obligation
to offer them).

Click the friends button at the bottom, or maybe it is called chat. Not
quite sure as I never have it on. It is at the right side on the bottom
next to the notifications button. When the box opens, click options and
then turn chat off. It will stay that way until you click the chat button
again. It should say now Chat (Offline).

That's not what I was getting at. It's the fact that there's a chance
one might find one's pictures being used as an advertisement on the
site (or elsewhere) for some those yukky products that contain too many
transfats, for example - if one is not extremely careful...

Facebook is not for everybody, but it is something I enjoy. You do not
have to include any photos, not one. I have 30-something photos on
Facebook, but none that I am ashamed of. I am wearing clothes in all of
them. lol

Serene, I am more self conscious clothed than I am unclothed. It would
be nice to discuss this in rec.nude, if the newsgroup wasn't full of
people who are bat shit crazy.

Maybe we could have a rtc nude cook-in someday? lol

No, not with pork. With chickpeas. It's called chickpea curry. You know
-- curry. Coriander, cumin, turmeric, fenugreek...

You might at least have worn matching socks.

There is nothing funny about that, Serene. Two words: Sheldon naked.

When I read the following quote . . . . .

3. We always appreciate your feedback or other
suggestions about Facebook, but you understand
that we may use them without any obligation to
compensate you for them (just as you have no
obligation to offer them).

. . . . . . I understood it as FB means that any suggestion
received/given would not be compensated if FB were to make use of said
suggestion (?) --- but that's only what I "think" it meant. Whether
that statement regards proffered (sp?) suggestions or members' content,
I haven't a clue.
