IIRC I 'graduated' from high school. It is questionable. I had to look up "graduate" check the exact meaning. It remains a little murky because the definition is quite broad. However... its root is the Middle English "gratuaten", which means to confer a a degree on. You don't get a degree or diploma at the end of kindergarten or elementary school. I got a diploma at the end of high school. Actually, since Ontario had Gr. 13, I got two high school diplomas, one at the end of Gr. 12 and another at the end of Grade 13, the latter being considered an honours diploma, which was required to go to university. I would suggest that students do not graduate from kindergarten or elementary school and it is somewhat silly to have something called a graduation ceremony or celebration. |

Many schools call it a promotion ceremony. Parents tend to call it "graduation". I don't care what it's called. -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

Come to think of it..... every time we did something 'monumental' in the Army, we had a "Passing Out" Parade!! Maybe that was to account for the monumental ****-up after 10-25 weeks of hard slog??!! :-) -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia "As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Today's parent celebrate EVERYTHING, spending more time, money and effort on an annual birthday party than some of our friends spent on their weddings. We wonder why many of today's kids are so lazy and lacking motivation, but it's not hard to figure out when you consider how they are indulged and congratulated on the slightest achievement like getting up in the morning and putting their shoes on the right feet. :-( For years now school teachers have been taught that self esteem is necessary in order for achievement. I still believe it's the other way 'round--achievement fosters self esteem. gloria p |

He worked at Perkins three nights a week and all day saturday, and still graduated third in his class. He's now years later an Executive chef. |
