Alan,
You don't know me, but I know a little about you and Christy. I'm
mostly a lurker on this newsgroup. Am writing to tell you that I had
colon cancer, I had surgery to remove about a foot of my colon, I
learned subsequently that the surgeon didn't get it all. Now I have to
go through a regimen of chemo, and possibility of radiation treatments.
The oncologist said that I may have to go through this through November
or December. I start this Tuesday. This involves going every other week
of chemo treatments. I don't know if Christy had to go through chemo,
but if she did what was it like for her? I'm trying to get all
perspectives so I'll know how to deal with this.

God Bless,
Chuck Kopsho

Not Alan, obviously, but I'm sorry about your condition and I wish you well.
My dad has been battling esophageal cancer, diagnosed in January of this
year, though he's been very sick since at least last summer. His doctors
were planning to start him with radiation, but then found the mass hadn't
spread from the esophagus and decided to go with chemo. His cancer didn't
respond well to the chemo, so radiation was started. He went through only
about 1 month of that and it did wonders. He was/is too weak to go through
surgery at this point, but he's doing well. He still has a hard time
eating, but does ok if he remembers what doesn't agree with him. He still
has his ups and downs, but is soooooo much better than six months ago.

He was very happy that his doctor installed a mediport for the chemo. He
was also able to take fluids and medication through it without discomfort.
He also had a feeding tube put in to help him get nutrition when he couldn't
get anything down his throat.

I wish you well and a quick healing.

There are plenty of oncology support groups out there. Asking TFM
for second-hand experiences after the fact here in newsgroups is
very inappropriate.

Not to mention that I swear I recall reading this post months ago? Is
USENET burping out old posts?

I seem to remember reading the same post awhile back as well.

yeah a different name though, from web tv the last one. I seem to remember
alot of people being kind and offering him support without any answer. I
emailed the person to keep it out of the newsgroup. Now we are beginning to
see the signs of what is really happening. Some people are just too cruel.

I have no kindness reserved for Chuckie. And I wasn't mean about it. You
want to see mean? I can do that.

With all the different Chemo drugs available and the fact that people react
differently to medications, yes even chemo, your best bet is to ask your
Oncologist what to expect.

How was he unkind? Perhaps it is painful for TFM to be expected to
report his late wife's history on demand?
There are better avenues for this unknown poster to obtain support. A
cooking group wouldn't be my first choice.

That may be true, but I would tread lightly in such a case.
(Maybe SW WAS for him!) Also, if I found myself in the situation
that the OP is in, I don't know how logically I would be functioning.

Dog 3,
I can't read your posts, all there is is a red background, and it
blots out all the text. Could you please get rid of it? Thanks!

Yeah - he copied that from me. Michael secretly idolizes me.

And Chuck has asked this of me at least 4 times over the last 4
years even though he knows we do this just to **** him off.

It works especially well for dark blue print against a black
background! The things people get in their AOL email still amazes me.
I just throw up my hands and say "I don't use AOL and know nothing
about it".

What itty bitty window, what crap... don't you know how to maximize screens
and enlarge fonts... you must have a ten year old computer with an itty
bitty ancient monitor.

I have NO idea what "itty bitty window" you keep complaining about here?
I've had an AOL account since they charged by the hour (a long freakin'
time!) and never had an "itty bitty window" problem. Perhaps you just
don't know how to change settings to suit you?
