They're sending him a device that allows users to trap a house fly and
then release it outside, are they nuts?

That was rhetorical.

For sure, like most extremists they simply discredit themselves when
they get silly.

I prefer to think of them as they were originally rather than what
they've evolved in to.

I'm laughing at the idea, what skill it must take to actually catch a
fly in one of those things, a, and b, that anyone (never mind the
President!) is going to carry it around just in case.

I belong to series of teachers' lists - middle-school, social studies
- higher education - politics. I get about fifty messages a day which
I quickly scan.

Now, these are teachers - and you would not believe the ignorance
coming out of them!

Blaming Obama for the Letterman bit, and pointing the finger at him
for every little thing that happens. Heavens! He's only been
President for a little over five months folowing eight solid years
where the country was flushed down the tubes.

What really concerns me is that these are *teachers* - supposedly
passing their wisdom (?) onto the younger generation.

For instance......

Nothing "pinhead" about Fox News, blake, they regularly have libs like
Bernie Sanders, Maxine Waters, NPR commentators, Dem strategists, etc. In
fact during the last POTUS election they had a livelier mix of commentary
and contributers than anyone else...

Fox is *just* another news source, behooves everyone to make sure they get
nooze from a variety of sources, like I do...I get nooze from left to right,
everything from Radio Havana and _Granma_ (Cuban Communist Paper) and Air
America right over to _Commentary_ and townhall.com and ...best to take it
all with a grain of salt, so read more, try to find reputable sources so's
you can have an informed opinion about thangs.

[It's silly to blast Fox News, just change the channel if it bothers you so
much. And BTW Fox New's ratings are BLASTING the other cable channel
offerings, they are a - laffin' all the way to the bank...]

If you are wondering why I'm so generally well-informed, that's why...

Well, at least I don't consider any particular nooze source - in this case
Fox - "the devil's handwork". Especially in this day, we have many score
hundreds of information sources at our fingertips via the internet. If one
source annoys you, there a *hundreds* more out there - to "annoy" you or to
inform you or simply to entertain you or even to buttress one's already
pre-conceived beliefs.

I think the mainstream media are just now beginning to learn the power
of the internet. Our local newspaper has been getting smaller and
smaller with less value content as their advertising revenue drops. Many
local businesses and many major out-of-state businesses are advertising
more on the net than in print.

Part of this is due to their mostly liberal content in a Bible belt area
and partly their conceit that the only news that is fit to print is what
they decide is fit.

We have one local TV station, an NBC affiliate and their advertising
dollars have dropped considerably too. Many of us don't even watch their
local news because we can get better reporting from local radio stations
and on the web from news outlets not to mention cable and satellite news
channels.

I'm not biased of course, the only news channel on my TV is Fox News,
the rest are just dreck and talking heads. At least I can get a somewhat
balanced view of the world via Fox and the web takes care of the rest. <G>

I don't get why liberals fear Fox news so much. Do liberals believe
their ideology is so weak that they actually fear hearing different
viewpoints because it might sway them or someone else?

I am not a big news junkie but I watch/read a pretty good range of news
just to get an idea what is going on.

Probably because Fox doesn't slant their news to the sinister or left
side. They just report the news. The mainstream media no longer has real
reporters, they always slant their news to try to influence public
opinion in the direction the owners, mainly left-wingers, want it to go.

fox news is a *de facto* arm of the republican party, not a news source,
and people like glen beck and bill o'reilly are most certainly pinheads,
not that i used that term. and liberals on teir shows are there to be
yelled at.

sites.

no, we fear that many people watch nothing *but* fox (or get their news
from talk radio), and believe they're getting 'the facts.' they are not.

sorry, this is bullshit. the mainstream media has not been 'liberal' for
at least thirty years.

you're half-right, though - they do influence people in the direction of
their owners - immensely wealthy people who are anything but liberal. you
think jack welch (owner of general electric) is a tree-hugger? um, no.

the mainstream media did nothing but cheer on the war in iraq, and anyone
who objected was painted as a left-wing crazy. who turned out to be right?

when dick cheney wanted to get his point of view out, he went on 'meet the
press':

Flashed on the courtroom computer screens were her notes from 2004 about
how Cheney could respond to allegations that the Bush administration had
played fast and loose with evidence of Iraq's nuclear ambitions. Option 1:
"MTP-VP," she wrote, then listed the pros and cons of a vice presidential
appearance on the Sunday show. Under "pro," she wrote: "control message."

"I suggested we put the vice president on 'Meet the Press,' which was a
tactic we often used," Martin testified. "It's our best format."

<http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/25/AR2007012501951.html>

this doesn't suggest that cheney was afraid of being mercilessly grilled by
noted liberal tim russert.

when hundreds of thousands of people turned out in u.s. to protest the
invasion of iraq it was a huge yawn. when a few thousand tea-baggers
turned out to protest - what - that obama is a 'socialist?' - it was on fox
news 24/7.

Despite its promise to deliver "total fair and balanced network coverage"
of the April 15 tea party protests, Fox News repeatedly promoted the
protests on that day, while hosts and guests, including those on Fox
Business, engaged in inflammatory rhetoric during their coverage of the
protests. As Media Matters for America documented, Fox News aggressively
promoted the protests prior to April 15, encouraging viewers to get
involved across the country. The network also featured at least 20 segments
on the protests and at least 73 in-show and commercial promotions for them
from April 6 to April 13. Indeed, Fox News has repeatedly described the
protests as "FNC Tax Day Tea Parties."

<http://mediamatters.org/research/200904160011>

no one, and i mean *no one*, thinks fox is 'fair and balanced' except
right-wingers, who see disloyal leftists under every bush.

Naw, judging by your typical responses you are clearly a heavy kool-aid
drinker. So everything outside of the "blue zone" is clearly wrong or an
attack that must be immediately addressed.

And resorting to ad hominems is still proof that you have lost the argument
on points and are trying to destabilize your opponent with the use of
slanderous epithets and innuendo.

um, i addressed the facts. you just dismissed me as a kool-aid user. who
is being honest in their argument?

I didn't dismiss you. My comment was no different than "he is an Apple
fan" or "he is a Red Sox fan" and was simply based on observation.
Folks who get obsessed tend to think everything is an attack and there
is never any grey area.

I'm sorry, but suggesting someone is "a kool-aid user" is not an
observation, no matter how Bill O'Reilly likes to spin that sort of crap.

It's an ad hominem. You are characterizing Blake in words that to you have
a derogatory meaning, while not contributing to the debate which is how an
ad hominem argument is delivered and perceived.

bullshit. 'kool-aid drinker' is not neutral, it's an *ad hominem*. but if
you don't have the facts, that's what you are reduced to arguing.
