Longing for cereal
Cereal, I love it, if I could eat cereal every morning, I would. Since
I am living la vita low-carb, it is one of the foods I am avoiding. My favorite cereals are corn flakes, shredded wheat or rice krispies. Some of the more popular cereals I have never tried, a Apple Jacks, Banana Nut Crunch, Kix, Blueberry Morning, Cap'n Crunch, Cinnamon Crunch, Cocoa Krispies, Cocoa Pebbles, Count Chocula, Fruit Loops, Frosted Flakes, Honeycomb, Life, Lucky Charms, Nut 'n Honey, I wonder what I am missing. In my experience low carbing, busting the diet for a day jump starts it. At least it used to for me. I tried it last month (really low low carbing) and had to give it up. It just doesn't feel healthy at this time in my life. I am not saying it is not healthy, just that it doesn't feel like it. I'm eating smaller portions and high-fiber carbs only now. |

I don't buy the sugared cereals. I also eat porridge. It is easy enough to cook and it's a heck of a lot cheaper. I love oatmeal and Cream of Wheat. |

Banana Nut Crunch is reputed to be pretty good. Blueberry Morning is tasty for breakfast cereal. Neither are worth spending carbs on. My breakfast cereal about 250 days in the year is All-Bran with a sliced banana (or, in default, a few raisins) and skimmed milk. Corn Flakes aren't bad whether made by Kellogg, Rich Food or Giant and the same goes for Raisin Bran. I don't like oatmeal or indeed any hot cereal tho' uncooked rolled oats with raisins is not bad. I don't always bother with milk there. -- James Silverton Potomac, Maryland Email, with obvious alterations: not.jim.silverton.at.verizon.not |

I wish, but in this case breakfast cereal has far too many carbs (which of course would be variety in a primarily low carb diet!) so I have been off of cereal for a few years now. Diabetic now, y'know. My favorite was Life Original (the one Mikey liked) and I somewhat remember eating very full bowlsful with real milk, so it wasn't too healthy, but I consoled myself that I was eating one of the less sweet cereals. And I really liked its malty flavor. So did Mikey, apparently. pavane |

I found two things to help with that. First of all, I switched to whole milk, which I use with cereal, porridge, my morning latte and for cooking. I also usually take half a Lactaid pill before I eat dairy products. I never drink milk. I can't even imagine enjoying a glass of it. |
