Cereal, I love it, if I could eat cereal every morning, I would. Since
I am living la vita low-carb, it is one of the foods I am avoiding. My
favorite cereals are corn flakes, shredded wheat or rice krispies.

Some of the more popular cereals I have never tried, a Apple Jacks,
Banana Nut Crunch, Kix, Blueberry Morning, Cap'n Crunch, Cinnamon
Crunch, Cocoa Krispies, Cocoa Pebbles, Count Chocula, Fruit Loops,
Frosted Flakes, Honeycomb, Life, Lucky Charms, Nut 'n Honey,

I wonder what I am missing.

How can you not have had Cap'n Crunch or Froot Loops or Frosted Flakes or
Lucky Charms? Were you raised by granola crunchin' commies or something?

In my experience low carbing, busting the diet for a day jump starts it. At
least it used to for me. I tried it last month (really low low carbing) and
had to give it up. It just doesn't feel healthy at this time in my life. I
am not saying it is not healthy, just that it doesn't feel like it. I'm
eating smaller portions and high-fiber carbs only now.

Seinfeld? :-)
I like cereal too but I usually stick to plain old Shredded Wheat or
Muffets and dress it up with fresh fruit and whole milk. I don't buy
the sugared cereals. I also eat porridge. It is easy enough to cook and
it's a heck of a lot cheaper. I love oatmeal and Cream of Wheat.

Banana Nut Crunch is reputed to be pretty good.
Blueberry Morning is tasty for breakfast cereal.
Neither are worth spending carbs on.
The rest of the bunch are among the worst, except for Nut 'n Honey,
which I've never even heard of.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I saw Cap'n Crunch on sale, like $1.49.
I haven't had that since I was a kid. It's way too sweet, just like the
rest you mention. I have a sweet tooth, if I say something's too sweet,
you can believe it.

I love raisin bran and Grape Nuts.

Not much. The only one of those that I enjoyed at all is Frosted
Flakes. I don't even remember why I had them in the house.

You're missing a TON of sugar. So you're really missing nothing short of a
diabetic coma ;) My favourite cereal is just plain Cheerios.

I forgot about grape nuts! I don't mean the flakes, I mean the original
stuff. It's hard as rocks. You could break a tooth.

I cleverly call them "having a bowl of rocks." (laugh) I also
like them in plain yogurt with banana. There's some kind of
synergy going on there. My sil turned me onto that.

It helps to change your diet and eat different foods. My doctor says
there are phytonutrients (phytochemicals?) in foods that we are not
aware of, so if you add variety to your diet, it can not hurt.

Cheerios are also a good snack food for toddlers. When I was potty
training my oldest son, I would sprinkle a few Cheerios in the toilet so
he could use those for target practice. He caught on really fast. lol

I used to work at an ice cream parlor where you could get Grapenut ice
cream. It's just vanilla ice cream with grapenuts. Really good and simple.

I tried eating Grapenuts once. It feels like your teeth are falling out.
Same with crunchy peanut butter.

I don't like Grape Nuts at all. My breakfast cereal about 250 days in
the year is All-Bran with a sliced banana (or, in default, a few
raisins) and skimmed milk. Corn Flakes aren't bad whether made by
Kellogg, Rich Food or Giant and the same goes for Raisin Bran.

I don't like oatmeal or indeed any hot cereal tho' uncooked rolled oats
with raisins is not bad. I don't always bother with milk there.

My children's favorites were Cap'n Crunch, Fruit Loops, Fruity Pebbles
and Count Chocula, but I never tasted any of those. Cereal was their
after school snack. I cooked a hot breakfast every morning until my
youngest son turned 11. I read, that until age 11, children performed
better in school when they had a hot breakfast. After that, they would
eat cereal once or twice a week.

BTW, when I visited my oldest son and we ate Honey Bunches of Oats and
it was awesome.

Yep! The latest research (which will later be refuted no doubt) is that
"whole foods" are worth more than the sum of their parts for this reason.
Have you seen results from low carbing yet?

I wish, but in this case breakfast cereal has far too many carbs (which
of course would be variety in a primarily low carb diet!) so I have been
off of cereal for a few years now. Diabetic now, y'know.

My favorite was Life Original (the one Mikey liked) and I somewhat remember
eating very full bowlsful with real milk, so it wasn't too healthy, but
I consoled myself that I was eating one of the less sweet cereals. And I
really liked its malty flavor. So did Mikey, apparently.

That is one of the few cereals I like. I soak it long enough so
it is just past the rock stage, but one of its charms is the fact
that it takes a LONG time to get soggy.

I liked your 3 favorites as a kid. But loaded with sugar. I don't
eat any cereal these days. The last time I had a bowl I was farting

<lol> Many moons ago, breakfast every morning was oat bran cereal
cooked in the m-wave (comes out like cream of wheat) and served with a
bit of home made skim yogurt and splenda.

I may go back to that once I hit my goal weight.

A long time ago, cream of wheat, and watching "get smart" was a daily

I know that feeling :-) or it is :-( ?
I found two things to help with that. First of all, I switched to whole
milk, which I use with cereal, porridge, my morning latte and for
cooking. I also usually take half a Lactaid pill before I eat dairy
products. I never drink milk. I can't even imagine enjoying a glass of it.

I used to enjoy Grape Nuts. Some years ago I thought it didn't taste to
great. I learned from a friend who is a Grape Nuts fanatic that they
changed the recipe for the Canadian product. He used to make trips over
the border every few months to buy cases of it because the American
formula had not changed. I tried that and he was right. The American
Grape Nuts were better, just like the old stuff here.

Hey! Don't be throwing Kix into that group. The original is terrific
- as much a part of my childhood (6 decades ago) as Kellogg's Corn
Flakes, Nabisco Shredded Wheat and the original Cheerios. The
original, plain corn-based Kix is nothing like those sugary, colored
upstarts that make up the rest of Becca's list.
