They say that the second train ran into a train that was stopped at a platform waiting for instructions to move forward. That second train must have been going very fast to have lifted up the stopped train. Wow. This is horrible. |

This is horrible. Tradgedies happen everyday all over the world. This wreck doesn't have any effect on my life but only those that are involved. With close to 300 million people just in the US alone, 2-4 deaths are but a pinhead drop in the bucket of life. I hate the news...always have. They never have anything positive to say about anything. No wonder the world is in such a doom and gloom state. You hear more about things like this (train wreck) than you do about abused kids, battered wives, people going broke. Again, I hate the news a very, very seldom listen to it other than for the weather report. |

This is my area, and the red line carries many people I work with. |

This is horrible. I bet somebody was either texting or blabbering away on a cell phone and ran through a red light. |

I don't think it would have to be going "very fast", there is an awful lot of mass in those trains and other than the traction motor units ar the bottom, very little structure up top, so all the mass of the rest of the cars will collapse the impact ones pretty readily. The real question is why they don't have decent collision avoidance sensors up front. Granted on curving sections you won't get enough range to help much, but straight shots coming into stations they should be able to detect a stopped train / obstacle far enough ahead to auto apply brakes in time to if not completely avoid impact, do so at a greatly reduced speed. |

Because technology cannot solve everything. Look at Air France. The cause has not been determined but it could likely be pilots unable to fight the computers' behavior when various electronic systems fail. Systems designed to avert accidents instead causing them. There is supposed to be computer controls that sense if any train on the system is getting too near to another. They have actually said at times that the drivers aren't necessary. The driver didn't help this time, and she was probably the first to die. I have not yet heard from my kid yet. Even though this wouldn't be her norm, she is on holiday this week and I would have liked a call! |

I wish that the dumbass bumpkins around here would support our transit system. --Bryan |
