Oddly enough the etymology of drug is an old word that means 'dry' so its modern usage is about as far removed from the original word as is ....say.. bank ... which originally denoted the bench the money lenders sat upon. -- Mr. Joseph Littleshoes Esq. Technically ![]() in brain chemistry. I don't recall the details off the top of my head, but i have read about and experienced hallucinations due to sleep deprivation. It is even used as a torture technique, it can make you so "crazy" you cant tell real from unreal. I have heard that its one of the reasons 'speed freaks' methamphetamine addicts hallucinate to much, not from the drug per se but from being awake for days at a time. And some psychologists believe a lack of 'dream time' REM sleep can be fatal. What's the old saying? "food nourishes the body, sleep nourishes the soul." -- Mr. Joseph Littleshoes Esq. There are some statistics out there that suggest that if you work the same shift all the time your body and you mind adjust much better than they would on a swing shift. |

I've been working it for nearly 5 years now. I used to work swings (afternoons). My sleep patterns sucked then too. -- Peace! Om Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. My first shift job we shifted backwards, graveyards, evenings, days. Didn't make it any better but after fifteen years I got used to it. I really preferred evenings, go to work at 1500, off at 2300. Had time to get a good sleep in, eat breakfast, get things done around the house, see the kids off to school, visit with wife, eat a good meal, then off to work. |
