Default A programmable mouse in newsgroups and email.

Hello All!

I have a programmable mouse and I have programmed several of the buttons
for reading newsgroups and other Windows applications.

I have a button for double-clicking,
one for "Mark all read"
and one for "Close Window".

Has anyone else any suggestions for button programming? The only one
that occurs to me is ALT+SHIFT+H for "View in HTML", using Outlook
Express..

I have on programmed to minimize all windows to show the desktop. I often
have a half dozen programs running so that is handy at times.

How many buttons does this mouse have? I've got my hands full with
two buttons and a scroll wheel.

The wheel often serves as as a button when pressed down instead of rotated,
depending on the mouse.

It's a Logitech with about 8 programmable buttons. I did not want to
change any of the traditional buttons tho I used the wheel click for
double click. Yes, it
is a pity some useful more complex operations cannot be programmed but
perhaps a good thing given my manual dexterity or lack of it :-) I don't
have the teenage ability to do texting underneath my desk.

surely you can program something that brings up the filter dialog
window.

Of course, but doing it with one click is what was being discussed. I
can usually remeber which button to click to bring up the menu.

If you're using Windows, the Windows (Start) key + m does the same thing.
No need to program buttons on a mouse for that particular function

Florgot about that one. There are a few keboard shortcuts that I rarely
need and forget they exist.

The only keyboard shortcuts I use are ctrl +v or +c in situations when
the menu doesn't let me do it.

I much prefer to use keyboard shortcuts rather than pointing and clicking
buttons on a mouse

I prefer to point and click. I use keyboard shortcuts only when
absolutely necessary.

Most times I do too, but if the mouse is already in my hand, I use it for
some functions. The programs I use on a regular basis are all opened with
the keyboard, files saved, files closed, cut/copy and paste since my hands
are already on the keys. That probably is because I predate a mouse and had
no other choice starting to use computers. Remember DOS commands?

You will start me reminiscing about the text editors of days gone by
with their non-mnemonic chorded keys. Ah, the first Word Perfect,
Leading Edge Word Processor, Word Star, Scripsit and all those wonderful
programs!

Pulling hair and screaming!!! I was lukewarm at best, but my attitude
was "with all that manure, there's got to be a pony here somewhere".
Windows and Word came into my life and I found the pony.

I used them both quite a lot but never composed anything like a business
letter with them. The first Linux program that I used and would call a
text editor was ApiWord (name?)

I used emacs to generate a formular for letters.
And vi for writing C - Code and Assembler.
Those old vi versus emacs wars; gone like the Atari versus
Commodore wars.
Good times ...
