Default The incredible exploding garlic hummus dip!

The incredible exploding garlic hummus dip!

I felt like making some garlic hummus snacks. A tub of it had been sitting
in the fridge unopened for almost a week. I moved stuff out of the way and
it had exploded. Not actually but it did pop it's top and plastic
tamperproof cover sheet. and a fair amount of the garlic hummus oozed out

This is the second tub of garlic hummus to explode in about a year. Same
TJs brand. They keep it on their chilled shelves. I rang them up and asked
if they'd ever seen it happen and they said no but just on my word they
offered me a free replacement next time I stop in.

I figure the hummus is releasing a gas as it ages and under too much
pressure it finally popped. After first using it, it never does that. First
I thought botulism. Not knowing exactly what happened, I threw it away and
carefully cleaned the shelf.

Anyone up on garlic hummus science? I'd like to know the offending
ingredient(s).

Andy

Why buy it when it is soo easy to make yourself and if it explodes on you
then...YOU did something wrong.

Ginny,

Heh heh heh heh heh!

I'm not usually in the habit of blaming myself.

Truth be told, I've done something wrong time after time, after time, after
time! <G>

Andy

The only 'half-way hummus explosion' we've ever had is when idiot FBS
decided to make hummus and left the lid off'n the blender. Yeah, he's the
one trained to cook professionally, too. It's pretty fool proof, but I
guess if you added the right fool to the mix it could 'possibly' explode.

I gather that "unopened" means it was never opened after you
purchased it? Or does it mean you opened it and then had it in
the fridge, unopened, for about a week after that? If the latter,
I don't suppose you were eating it from the tub--or redipping into it?

ginny,

FBS went off to VN and walked behind a firing bazooka. Blew out his
eardrums. By example, your FBS is a friggin' genius!!!

Jean B,

Right! in "factory sealed" condition.
