I was reminded of that incident because of the server's attitude. He displayed a snotty attitude. Perhaps he looked down on us because we were using a coupon, but we were tourists and gave the place a try because we got a coupon at the hotel. It was his loss. It was pretty obvious to me when I got so much change that he had mistaken the travellers cheque for American dollars. I could have kept my mouth shut and he never would have known, but I would have felt guilty for stiffing a waiter. As it turned out, I came out ahead and have no reason to feel guilty. |

No, I like to cook, and I needed a part time job, and I thought it would be fun to work as a line cook in a privately owned, non-chain restaurant. It was. And with a few exceptions, I got along with the wait staff great. Even got more than my share of flirts from some of the female on staff, even though they new I was married and not looking. I would be curious why you are so bitter towards the back of the house? jt |

Oh, the comedy that came out of our troll at Trailhead, a dishwasher named Riley. Trailhead Brewing Co. is a microbrewery/restaurant, yet this troll only drank Busch, a ****water compared to what the brewery produced, IMO. This guy is 5 ft 1 in tall, has a ZZ Top style beard and scraggly hair pulled back in a hippy style ponytail while working. He'd go through the kitchen picking up dirty cookware off the various stations, talking about how intelligent he was and how stupid the rest of us (bussers, cook and servers alike) were. Either that, or he'd yell "Buuuusschhhh!" and extoll the virtues of that mass produced beer. Among highlights we said to him: Riley, go do something useful, like walk in front of a moving bus. Riley, Wash U (as in Washington University) called. The English Mythology department wants you to volunteer as a living specimen of a troll. Busch Beer, smooth going do, smooth coming up. Hey, Riley, there was a girl here last night asking about you. When she found out it was your night off, she stayed and ordered dinner. This guy was a self-induced punching bag, and he still works there, and is still the same self-made target. jt |

Oh, I got along great with almost all the servers. After clock out, I would hang with them as did other cooks, drinking beer and joking and joshing as friends tend to do. The post was life experience, and the stuff was funnier at the scene than my posting about it turned out to be. I was reminising as I typed, and posting some of the funnier lines as I remembered them. Then a couple hours later, rereading it just before your reply, it didn't come across nearly as funny to me, and I was the one who posted it. No, you're definitely not dense. jt |

I think at my current age, Mailer might have just a little too much dick to interest me. But I am willing to try! Next library visit. I keep threatening not to buy any more books as they pile up so, and we have nowhere to put any more. |

It might have been a mistake or it might have been padding, which is illegal. Bottom line, it's not your problem, nor is it your place to meet out justice. I think you quite correctly handed it off to the person who's responsibility it is and all the sturm and drang about your motives is nothing but a lotta crap shoveled by petty people with too much time and too many shovels. Spoken like a person who's never experienced a multi-dog household that includes one or more intact females. The term "bitch" worked its way into the language as an insult for a very good reason. Fights between males involve a lot of noise and drama but generally end when one or the other rolls over and says "uncle" (deliberately trained fighting dogs being the obvious exception). Bitch brawls, even between mother and daughter or sisters, are frequently lethal. "Males fight to breed. Females fight to breathe". |

It's just like when > Andy insulted Blake's disability. not really. 'bitch' is a well-understood term that means something specific. i don't see it as a slur on womanhood. on the other hand, what is 'no legs' supposed to mean? >I know when people are feeling > ****ed off that one can feel justified in going after any perceived > weakness, but sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, etc. is not > justified when fighting back internet--especially Usenet--nastiness. >> careful now - you seem to be implying that (female) sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, etc. are perceived as weaknesses. blake |
