When ya just gotta have breakfast...

I made mine two strawberry yogurts, a small bunch of grapes and a buttered
slice of whole wheat toast, for good measure.

You?

A bowl or raisin bran, about 12 Oz of strawberry lowfat yogurt. Making a
cup of coffee now.

Ya outdid me. Only had 8 oz. yogurt (two tubs of Fiber One).

I don't do caffeine in any form. Ya got me there.

I rarely eat breakfast, later I'll have brunch... yesterday's brunch was a
big bowl of leftover tossed salad from the night before dinner, already
dressed and soggy, among a lot of veggies was white kidney beans and pasta
(med shells). And I've gone back to making my own dressings exclusively,
I've decided all bottled dressings are awful.

Okay, we know whole wheat toast but what kind of strawberry yogurt; fruit at
the bottom or blended, regular/no fat/lo fat, what size containers? And
what kind of grapes; green/red/black, seeds or seedless, what? And what
kind of butter, stick/whipped, salted? And why only one slice... if you
used a two slice toaster you wasted energy... I don't think I've ever made
just one slice of toast. And what kind of toaster do you have? Mine is a
KitchenAid ultra power plus with single wide slot, designed to hold two
slices but I often fit in three by standing slices on their narrow end
and/or slightly overlapping... as bread toasts it shrinks so halfway through
the overlap corrects itself because this toaster centers bread slices by a
spring action device, sometimes I have to help a bit. And do you like your
toast light, medium, or dark... mine has 9 settings... for white I set at
5-6-7 depending on texture, for whole wheat/multi-grain 8, for rye and
english muffins 9. This toaster also has separate bagel controls, even for
frozen bagels. NYC bagels (there are no other kind) are never toasted
unless no longer fresh.

Andy, you can't just post that you ate breakfast, you need to give
details... and what if anything did you drink, coffee, tea, milk, cola,
beer, grape Nehi? Everytime I see Andy posts I visualize Radar. hehe

Sheldon,

I mentioned Fiber One Strawberry 4 oz. tubs *2 in a reply post.

I have both red and green seedless. For those concerned such as you (why?),
red seedless.

Breakstone unsalted butter, supposedly whipped but it's hard as a rock.

One slice was the order of the day. No big deal. I doubt I wasted money
when you compare the kw hours cost to the cost of a second slice of bread.

That's beyond the scope of breakfast isn't it? rec.food.equipment?

Oh, can't I?????? LOL!!!

I was raised on Sunday brunch. Never heard of weekday brunch! That's
breaking some breakfast law. [Thumbing though the by-laws of breakfast,

After workout meal: bowl of 'Great Grains' cereal, sliced banana, the dregs
of a Costco sized box of blueberries and a sliver of Key Lime pie (a
co-worker got ambitious last night), washed down by 2 cups of 'office'
coffee.

Weekday brunches exist in the domain of people who don't have to get up each
day to go to work.

I've been making my own dressings too but need to branch out to find some
different types. I've been making mostly balsamic & Dijon vinaigrette cause
I can whip that up in 30 seconds, switching off once in a while with
anchovies, lemon juice and olive oil which is more involved.

I've only attended Sunday brunch buffets.

I can't picture a Tuesday, such as today, brunch buffet but I'd like it, like
it, yes I would! --Rolling Stones dream I had.

I did a taste comparison between Franco-American Spaghettios with mini
meatballs, and Chef Boyardee Mini Bites with mini meatballs (ABCs and
123s). "The Chef" was far better.

Bryan,

Your finishing sign off (as confusing as it always is) makes it look like I
said that!

Spaghettios? I wouldn't have the nerve! 40 years ago, maybe. But I don't know
for breakfast.

The Spaghettios were not anywhere near as good as the Chef Boyardee
product.

I had coffeecake. Not homemade. I need to make my blueberry
thing. It is raining here near Boston, and not ultra-hot, so I
will go down and bake in a moment. Actually, I need to thaw some
butter first....

Boy, that wilted salad brings back memories. Along with the
weeping pies and other things mom let me take over for breakfast,
there were the salads left over from her dinner parties. I do
love leftovers for breakfast!

No. No point as I have discovered in trying to illuminate those who prefer
to live with the dark stuff.

Please, take it. Around here, anything darker than medium is strictly for
tourists.

Here's a nice Blueberry poundcake. I've made it twice recently. The
second time the blueberries sunk. I don't think I coated the blueberries
well enough in flour before hand. It still tasted good.

I don't remember where I got it - but it was definitely on the web.

It calls for an eight ounce container of lemon yogurt but those don't
exist anymore so I just use a six ounce container.

Blueberry Poundcake

2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
3 large eggs
1 large egg-white
3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 8-oz carton low-fat lemon yogurt
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cooking spray
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Beat first 3 ingredients at medium speed of
a mixer
until well-blended (about 5 minutes). Add eggs and egg white, 1 at a time,
beating well after each addition. Lightly spoon flour into dry
measuring cups;
level with a knife. Combine 2 Tablespoons flour and blueberries in a small
bowl, and toss well. Combine remaining flour, baking powder, baking
soda, and
salt. Add flour mixture to sugar mixture alternately with yogurt,
beginning and
ending with flour mixture. Fold in blueberry mixture and vanilla; pour
cake
batter into a 10-inch tube pan or Bundt pan coated with cooking spray.
Bake at
350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in
center
comes out clean. Cool cake in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan.

No scones. If I have leftover blueberries, I may make some
blueberry scones.

Odd as it may seem, the best blueberry scones I have ever had (and
that includes my own attempts) were in the cafeteria of Boston's
Hancock Tower. Most scones one purchases are NOT a nice texture.

i've never seen anyone but you include someone else's signature after their

A couple of things I haven't compromised on yet... butter, and whole
milk. But I don't use a whole lot of either. And I'm good about not
adding sugar to the cereals.

That's not true. Before retiring, throughout my entire working career I ate
brunch at 10AM morning coffee break time. Many people do likewise. And I
still get out of bed and get going on the same schedual as when I worked,
usually earlier. The only real difference is that now I may wait a bit
later to have brunch, and then I don't eat again until dinner time. It's
pretty obvious that you've never held a job, and don't have pets. Just wait
until you become an adult and your mommy won't do for you anymore.

How does one pit a fig, and why? Do you pit fig newtons too?

Years ago I'd prepare an entire week's worth of salad on the weekend and
mete it out in large tupperware-like bowls lined up in the fridge to bring
to work each day... soggy salad never bothered me.
I love LOs the next day... all kinds. I like slices of cold baked potato,
each slice topped with something... from peanut butter, to ketchup, mustard,
cheese, to a good schmear of garlic black bean sauce.

It sounds pretty damn good. Don't think I'll get there in this lifetime.

I did a taste comparison between Franco-American Spaghettios with mini
meatballs, and Chef Boyardee Mini Bites with mini meatballs (ABCs and
123s). "The Chef" was far better.

I'm sure better than anything you can make yourself. I'll eat a lot of
no-account foods but I draw the laine at canned pasta... and that garbage is
pricey for what it is. I'd much rather a bowl of ramen.

Agreed, light maple syrup is tasteless... may as well use light Karo.

That's very common in construction. The first 3-4 hours of the day
are when the bulk of the work gets done. After break things slow down
a bit. In the summer it's common to get a 15 minute break at 10:00 or
10:30 and work through lunch and go home early.

Hmmm. That is the best incentive for cooking I have heard for a
while--the leftovers, and getting to eat them for breakfast.

For me leftovers are a good reason to not make so much. I can't eat
the same thing two days in a row and will never eat them for
breakfast.
