A few fast food slogans

KFC
"Unthink what you thought about KFC!"
What, and forget about KFC grease for money?

Wendy's
"It's better than fast food...It's Wendy's."
And I've got the slowest flowing veins to prove it!

Got one?

Not sure this is what you're looking for, but, my all-time favorite:
"Kiss me I got Chicken George on my lips" Someplace in Chicago.

I drive by a place in Detroit - "If you want to be smiley smiley, get
your shrimp at Miley and Miley"

Yeah that one really cracks me up! Colonel Sanders must be spinning

Subway is down there in Arby'sland, with Checkers/Rally's. Subway
actually stinks. We find it unpleasant to go into the local WalMart
when the Subway is open.
We ate at Lion's Choice today:
http://www.lionschoice.com/home_index.html

Their roast beef really is too good to fairly compare to other fast
food joints.

Del Taco's 99 cent green burrito (beans & cheese) is similarly far
above standard for fast food.

For many years we had a local restaurant/gas station with a similar sign
over its building that read, "Eat Here and Get Gas"

It was kind of sad when it was torn down for a strip mall.

You know it was a gimmick, not an oversight. Still, that had to have
been funny to walk/drive past. You're new here, no? Been lurking?

Agreed, but not worth the drive to get one, since the Del Taco in
O'Fallon closed.

Subway moved into town hoping to cash in on the jurors, attorneys, etc., that
populate the town Mon.-Fri. Trouble is when the courthouse closes and
everyone leaves, you may as well roll up the sidewalks.

Subway didn't get the breakfast crowds and they didn't have any seating for
the lunch crowd. At night, anyone coming into town for dinner certainly
wouldn't stand around a Subway eating a crappy sandwich.

They closed after only three months.

I'm not sure who owned that one. The three in St. Louis are all owned
by the same guy (Pat I-don't-know-his-last-name). The ones along
Highway 40 have been hurt by the construction closures, especially the
one by Forest Park. I would be quite unhappy if that one closed.

It's sad when just about anything gets demolished to build a strip
mall. We have enough strip malls!

Quizno's pulled the same sort of stunt in my neighborhood. The stores
are across a busy street with no crossing light, and they don't stay
open late enough to get the club crowd when they leave. Probably a
good thing since the litter level in the neighborhood would just get
worse.

Quizno's is not bad, except they seem to exercise very little
institutional control over their franchisees, and some of them are
real dumps.

Whoever "researched" that market should be out of a job by now.

You can say THAT again!

I believe the local residents do a good job of patronizing the long
established hometown restaurants. That and in a small town with word of
mouth being what it is, a few bad reviews can spread like wildfire.

We never had McDonalds. City council was definitely anti-chain and for the
longest time, it added to our hometown pride. About seven years ago Wendy's
finally struck a deal, then so did McDonalds right next door to Wendy's on
one side of town. A Starbucks and Quiznos settled into an abandoned gas
station on the edge of town. At least the townshiip shoehorned them away
from the nicest parts of town.

Best,

Andy

Our local Quiznos is much better, facility-wise, than any of our
Subways which are all over-crowded, dirty, smelly and have nasty-
looking likewise counter help. Ick.

Let's see... Dunkin Donuts, vacant lot, gas station, Wendy's, McDonalds.
Yeah.

Andy - Good for you, and your town. I'll eat at the the greasiest
spoon mom & pop diner before a chain. Sure, the honest, hardworking
guy who spent his savings for a franchise fee means well, but he could
have just as easily looked at profit prospectuces and bought a gas
station or convenience store. I'd rather support the people who think
they want to cook without corporate interferance and take a risk.
