Default One, Two, Buckle my Blueberries

I made blueberry buckle from the recipe Terry posted. It looks pretty
tasty, although I did not use the lemon-sugar syrup it called for
pouring over the warm cake.

And you might as well check out the garden while you're there.

Nice, B. No, make that gorgeous.

I love blue berries, and that dish seems to be
a gift from Heaven. Thanks for that post.

OK, got to ask.

SWMBO and I argue....

Buckle, Cobbler, Pie, etc. etc.

Is there a way to tell the difference? She and I almost
came to blows about whether a clafoutis was a cobbler.

This is *SERIOUS*, but she's out of town for a couple
of weeks, so I can ask.

You are quite welcome.

We had a bountiful blueberry harvest this year. My three bushes have
never fruited so well before.

Although one will find definitions online, one will also find many
exceptions. I used a Martha Stewart recipe last week for something she
called a "cobbler," which was very different from anything I had ever
known as one.

Thanks. One can only learn, which is a sign that one is still
alive. At advanced age, the only lust permitted is that of
taste....... (sorry Girls, oh, wait! There *is* taste involved,
is there not?

Interesting. I grew up and have returned to Surry County, NC. We
have gone to the sonker fest for the past 3 years. It is sponsored by
the county historical society for the preservation of the 200 year old
house. They have almost all varieties of sonker.

They have a "pick up" band that plays on the porch.

If you are in the area the first Saturday in October, join the fun and
good sonkers.

Here is a link to some pictures.

The larger ones, beginning to color, are beefsteaks, but I have photos
of several other varieties, including a couple of different cherries,
various heirlooms and Rutgers.

It is quite tasty, I have to say.. like a giant blueberry muffin with
topping.

I am not sure what the lemon sugar syrup would have done to the taste
had it poured it over the warm cake.. Surely there is a lot of lemon
zest in there already (two in the batter and two in the topping), so
the lemon flavor really comes through. I didn't use the syrup because
it said to leave it someplace warm until the cake was ready. I left it
on the burner and when I came back to it, I could have made lemon
brittle.

I think a scoop of vanilla ice cream would be nice with it, too.

I am hoping for a review by now and will proceed through the
thread. We just finished up our pie, and I need to progress to
buckle. That is one of my favorite uses for blueberries, even
though I have not been totally thrilled with my creations. Maybe
they are competing against my childhood memories, which may have
grown to unsurpassable heights over the years.

I wonder whether the syrup would have made this too moist?
