He's right on the money. I would apply his points to other fields such as music
or poetry. It used to be that if you wanted to hear well chosen words or
beautiful music, you had to make it yourself. Then, we moved on to music
consumption rather than creation, thanks to the technological marvels of
recordings and radio. But even then, recordings and radio required ownership of
special equipment and intent listening. Now, we listen to music on the go,
often without even knowing who's making it, which dynamics might be involved in
its production, how much it costs to produce or who gets the short end of the
stick. The same holds true with food. The less we grow, kill or cook our own
food, the more perspective we lose on what it takes to produce, what's in it
and what it does to our bodies. All in all, right on the money.

So your Happy Ideal World would be that of a medieval peasant or a slave or
a primitive hunter - gatherer society, eh...???
