Depends on the use by date of the ingrediants, where they came from, the
the non-existance of hydrogenated fats, who cooked it, wether it has
been properly cooked, the time of day it is eaten, and how much drink is
available before and after.

Must have loads of chilli and garlic sauce added, and that rice should
preferably be basmati.

Tea hee. I grew up in Hawaii and lots of people eat a lot of Spam
there. I'm not one of em but about once a year I'll get a craving.
I prefer it sliced thin and fried with a nice crispy outside. I'm
assuming an English twist by both the mushroom/beans side and the 2 UK
newsgroups (I'm in rec.food.cooking)

LOL at Spam-Lamb from outside this thread and I'm so so on the "Spam
Musubi" (spam sushi) which is another local Hawaiian favorite.

I'm not a big fan of Spam musubi either but it is a ubiquitous food of
Hawaii. My kids would always go for those things when they were little.

Mostly, its great advantage is that it's eaten cold and it packs well.
Add a drink such as from one from the water fountain at the beach park
and you got an instant meal. It's similar in concept to a hot dog except
that hot dogs don't pack well and you wouldn't want to eat them cold.

As I say, I'm not a big fan but it's utility value as a fast food source
or even as an emergency food is undeniable.

Yeah. Was waiting for that one.

To quote my fave TV show:

Just happened across this; I don't know much about Gordon Ramsay and
the F Word.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3E8mRQ4AV4

He mentions, 'Accrington's Stanley' . Must be the name of the tripe
shop. I was born in Accy. Great granny owned a tripe shop in
Clayton.

Why don't they just sell the tripe at a butcher, where you can buy
the rest of the cow, too?

I liked that part about eating it raw, with just salt and vinegar.
Can't wait to try that one.

I'm not sure "fresh" necessarily means raw. Nevertheless, you can have
my share.

I'll second that!
Many years ago, my father had a kennel and raised registered Siberian
Huskies.
He regularly cooked tripe to feed them but, my mother refused to let
him cook it in the house. He had to cook it on a little hot plate out
in the barn. Smelled terrible. Dogs loved it.
I'd have to be extremely desperate to even try it.

Chewy. I should think. Now a largish rectangle of prepared tripe spread
with a made mustard and coated with egg and bread crumb and then deep
fried!!! Serve with snail butter flavored with absinthe.
