They are a cheapie grilling meat that tastes great. They also pan fry nice and shock of shocks shake n bake works on them too. Fairly tender and tasty. Take the pork outa the saur kraut casserole, Alice...it's grillin time. (Kinda like pork chops before the fat was bred outa them. But larger). Average distance for self-defense is 10 yards. A slug will go WELL beyond that as will buckshot using full choke. And buckshot has lower wall penetration issues so is safer to use indoors if you have pets and/or other family members in another room. Any of those other bullets will penetrate well beyond several walls. It's why I cringe every time I see someone at the gun show purchasing AK's and AR's for home defense! It's stupid, ignorant and dangerous!!! I use .223 for varmint hunting, outdoors, and .308 for deer. You'll get no argument from me regarding the purchase of AKs and ARs "for hunting." > I use .223 for varmint hunting, outdoors, and .308 for deer. I haven't gone deer hunting in years; my state likes Bambi and has made it difficult. I mostly boar hunt which requires the 30-06. (My FIL uses his M1. I always know where he is after he fires that sucker.) Personally, I prefer to knock the animal down with one shot from a safe distance than get in close and have the bullet annoy it into the underbrush. (BTDT. It sucked having to drag the beast back out. You only do that once and learn from the experience or never go again. I like boar hunting.) > Never for 2 legged predators, not that I've ever had to deal with one > (yet, nor do I want to!) Texas is more conservative than PRC. Unsweetened French toast is similar to an omelet and I certainly put ketchup on omelets. Why don't you try it sometime? As a kid I liked ketchup sandwiches and I'm not completely averse to them yet. If you like ketchup on eggs, try chili sauce on frittata. Douse it with Tabasco (not just any hot sauce) too. Major yum! -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

I also prefer to kill with one shot which is why I plan to use my .308 (Winchester model 88) to go feral hog hunting this fall, if that tentative invitation I have pans out. I'm given to understand tho' that the AR would work as well tho' given that .223 has a muzzle velocity of 3.200 fps. My .308 only has a muzzle velocity of 2.300 (or so). Granted tho' the larger caliber can make up the difference along with the larger powder load. > > > Never for 2 legged predators, not that I've ever had to deal with one > > (yet, nor do I want to!) > > Texas is more conservative than PRC. We'll have to disagree on a need for anything requiring "assault" in the title when hunting animals. Until I'm shown an actual need (Donald and flock are strafing into the duck blind, ferexample), you don't need that much killing power. I love my BIL's Winchester .22. Great piece of art that rifle. And the best varmint tool around. The Ranger |

I'm talking about good old North American (tomato based) chili sauce... not those foreign usurpers. I have no idea why the tomato stuff is called chili sauce. It just is. -- I love cooking with wine.
