Since so many of you mother****ers were apparently raised by pondscum, here
you go:

When someone dies, no matter how heinous you may think they were, there are
those who loved them and are grieving for them. If you cannot say something
positive, just shut the **** up.

If you are lucky, someone may love you enough to grieve you when you die.
But I doubt it.

I wonder what Mary Jo Kopechne's family is thinking right now...???

Or Joan Bennett Kennedy, Teddy's first wife who he drove to alcoholism and
insanity with his philandering and just general bad behaviours...???

When someone dies, bringing up old hates sure as hell isn't going to hurt
them.

As I get older, I have decided to try to take as little hate with me to the
grave as possible. I'm shedding it... a little at a time and working on
that "forgiveness" thing with various degrees of success. I may never get
totally there but I'm trying.

I read the vitriol that came out today after Kennedy died and I wonder if
there was ever a time in my life that I was like that. And if I was, how
did my actions color the way people looked at me? I learned a lot today
about some of the people who post here.

As usual... YMMV

Or as Bette Davis is reported to have said upon learning of Joan Crawford's
demise:

"Joan Crawford is dead. Good...!!!"

AMEN! It's especially disturbing to trash someone before the burial/
cremation/whatever . . . when the mourners are so grief
stricken as the "loved one lies before them".

Besides, I think that the more good you do while you're on earth, the
louder you enemies will holler when you doe.

You just contradicted yourself. You said everybody has somebody who
loves them and will grieve for them, then in the next paragraph you
say the exact opposite.

Do Spam-eating cats count as "somebody"'s?

Does your lecture apply only to mourning the passing of "celebrity
politicians" or does it also count for some schlep in Iowa? Remember this

Tho' he wrote a much quoted poem (The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam), it did
not do Edward Fitzgerald any good when he rejoiced in the death of
Elizabeth Barrett (Browning), "No more Aurora Leighs". Like other catty
comments, it was probably caused by envy since Elizabeth Barrett had
even been suggested as Poet Laureate.

And it *was* a funny way to die, given that everyone has to. Brain cancer,
not such a hoot.

<laugh> She and a few others here will probably throw a party when
Bush dies. The hypocrisy is amazing. I'm surprised the finger
pointers here haven't blamed teddy's brain rot on Bush not finding a
cure for cancer.

When wacko jacko died there were may disparaging comments about him
made here. If people were upset by them I must have missed the posts.
But because a politician is involved people feel the need to jump on
the band-wagon. Pretty weird if you ask me.

I must have missed the gloating posts. All I see is some who don't
care if he's dead.

I just can't get worked up over the death of some stranger, and I
don't see
how anybody else can, either. Don't get me started on Princess Di.

Yes, I think it's a pity that he died, especially since he did so much
for the
"little people". But everybody dies. Public figures rate "Oh, that's
too bad",
or "What a waste" (the latter especially in the case of someone who
flames
out young, like Heath Ledger).

Congratulations. You have the insight, emotional depth and empathy of an
oyster. How nice for you. Then next time someone you love dies, I hope lots
of people who did not know him or her but heard lots of things about them
have lots of loud discourse about everything negative that has been said.
That's probably the only way you would get the point.

Did you love Teddy Kennedy? I don't see how the situation you propose
is anything like the current one.

Could you please explain to me in terms that an oyster would
understand
why I should feel grief over the death of a stranger? I am amenable
to
rational persuasion.

Nope, but she mentioned it in interviews afterwards...

Bette had a mean streak - especially when drinking - and was not averse to
slamming her perceived enemies or rivals. She thought Crawford was
deficient as an actress and Bette also constantly disdained JC's "movie star
act"...

Another one of her reported great quotes is "Edith Head gives great
costume"...she *did* like Edith Head, lol!

Perhaps there is another path to take here.
One without need for grief but at the same time, no need to be happy
about the death. Many people die each day yet the living feel no need to
disparage the dead. They simply ignore them. No need to feel grief if
you do not have that feeling for someone.

Not disparaging Mr. Kennedy's behavior is not the same thing as
condoning it.

I think all 'cybercat' and Blake Murphy are saying is, 'there is no need
to speak badly of the dead.' If you did not care for him while he was
alive, simply ignore his passing. Do not enjoy it. That would seem more
in line with the subject heading of 'Humanity 101.'

Yes, yes, YES. I love your cool head and gentle approach. I acknowledge my
limitations in these departments. I seriously think less of anyone who
disparages anyone in the days after they have died. Horrible stuff.

Actually not.

The option word was "empathy", not grief.

I feel that way that every time a Hollywood RIP OT hits rfc. At least
Kennedy managed to redeem himself and made a difference the last few
decades.

I preferred "The Name of the Rose". All I needed for that was a Latin
dictionary. For Foucault I needed Latin, Hebrew, French . . .

Edward Fitzgerald . . . ain't that the name of the feller they named

Fitzgerald.
