Watched it Tuesday night. Robert was back after having to back out last of
last year's episode due to heart palptations. He came back this year. And he has really been acting like a bitch. Critical as hell of everyone, pitching little fits like a little kid, breaking things and yelling and screaming. As if he should be given some special accord. Then he had another heart issue and was gone for two days. The guys on the Blue team were going "Thank God Robert isn't here. He never did anything anyway." Just as they said that Robert came back while everyone else was busy doing prep. He put on his jacket, said hi, then the camera showed him kicking back eating a snack and drinking a cola. Everyone else was working. Came time to get on the line and he still wasn't doing a damn thing. This time when he went up on the "block" he said "I've been in Hell's Kitchen three times. Three times!" Yeah? So what? You can't keep riding on the disability pass, dude. So he got booted. This time for good. I literally could have stood up and cheered. He really started acting like an ass and he deserved to be kicked off the competition. As Chef Ramsay said, "I'm looking for a head chef, and Robert isn't it." I haven't figured out who I'm routing for, if anyone. None of the contestants stand out. The real surprise would be if Ramsay didn't pick any of them ![]() Jill |

The show isn't on the Food Network. Hell's Kitchen is a bit like Marine Corps Boot Camp. If you can't cut it you'll get your ass booted out ![]() phrase, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". Very apt. Most of those idiot "contestants" wouldn't even land a job as a busboy, much less a head chef of an upscale restaurant. I mean, last year they had a frigging buffet server! C'mon get real! But I realize that if they had competent chefs competing, then Ramsay wouldn't have any opportunity to stand there in the kitchen and scream obsenities at the top of his lungs when someone can't boil spaghetti or warm up a can of scallops to his exacting standards (snicker).....Yes they use tinned scallops, they ****ed up and showed it on the last season. Puh-leeze! Even TV Food Network (another snicker) could come up with better fare than this show. |

I couldn't figure out why they had to have a program to "fix" those dumb restaurants, anyway. It was the same thing every time: fire the lazy staff with the shitty attitudes, fire the manager with the shitty attitude, stop serving shitty food, and clean the ****ing place! Why did they need an "expert" to come in to figure that out for them? Dumb! |

And the food... well, take a look at the walk-in fridges... the food has been sitting there for weeks. It's enough to make anyone sick. Some of these places, they're lucky they haven't killed someone (which Ramsay so rightly points out). I recall one where the seafood restaurant was right on a lake, I think it was in Michigan. They were buying frozen seafood from someplace else and he said "but you're sitting on a lake! Why don't you serve fresh trout?!" Buy from the local fishermen! How true. Buy local fish, support local farmers. I like that about him. Jill |

The winner of Hell's Kitchen goes on to a job as a senior sous-chef at the "prize" restaurant. But they still garner a nice chunk of change just for winning the competition. In a past discussion of Hell's Kitchen, someone referred the contestants as "kitchen rats," which seems a fairly good term to use: They don't really have any culinary expertise or great talent, but they've been working in kitchens so they aspire to chefdom. Ambition is all well and good, but there's really no valid way to leapfrog your way to the top in the world of professional cooking; if you don't pay your dues by working (usually for *years*) with prep cooking, line cooking, and recipe development, then you lack the knowledge to be an executive chef or head chef. It's no accident that so many great chefs started out as apprentices when they were teenagers. Bob |

I also think Tenille and Suzanne will remain in the game as long as possible because they are so irritating, and drama is what keeps the viewers watching week after week. Bob |

Every recipe I've made from that book of Ramsay's recipes has been delicious. His provincial-chauvinistic outlook comes up regularly, though: "We only use salmon from Scotland, because it's the best." Or, "All my restaurants get their lamb from Scotland, because Scottish lamb is the best." Bob |

I'd choose none of them to be a manager. Ramsey would do better by going over to Top Chef and taking the second or third place chef. |

I wouldn't want it. Being a chef is not just about what you see on television. Those "punishments" the losing teams have to deal with? like unloading the trucks and taking inventory, stocking the coolers and the freezers, then doing prep, that's real work. I remember the chef at the last restaurant I worked in was there at 6AM checking in the produce and food deliveries for the day. Then he oversaw the prep for everything on the menu that day. That man was on his feet for at least 14 hours a day at the very least. Another reason I don't want to be a professional chef. I'd rather just cook for fun. Jill |

News of the World is trash masquerading as news. Were you truly unaware of that? Looking at Google as you recommend, I see the number of alleged violations has been variously reported as 24 (the trash rag you cited) and 17 (the Daily Mirror, another worthless tabloid). Which is it? And do you have a *reputable* source for this, or do tabloids have some exclusive license to report on Ramsay? CNN had no story about this. ABC News had no story about this. AP had no story about this. NY Times had no story about this, but it *did* have an interesting one about Gordon Ramsay showing a picture of a nude woman with a pig's face, and stating that it was a picture of Australian TV journalist Tracy Grimshaw. Since I don't read the New of the World I will leave that 'knowledge' to you. I do know from local experience that one of his restaurant was filthy and was closed down. I was simply pointing out that there are stories on Google. |

What do you mean you don't read News of the World? Didn't you read the story you posted? Where did you think the story was being published? And regarding your "local experience," exactly which of his restaurants was "filthy and was closed down" and exactly when did this occur? And are you SURE you're not confusing Gordon Ramsay with Heston Blumenthal? Google is a search engine. It lists web sites which contain your search keywords. It doesn't distinguish betweem web sites written by whack-jobs and web sites written by responsible journalists. In this case, I found ZERO hits for web sites written by responsible journalists. It's all well and good to use Google, but you should be aware that there are a *lot* of web sites and blogs out there which are nothing but shit, and Google serves them right up to you because you asked. I searched news sources I consider reputable, but found no corroboration for the story you posted. Therefore I looked into the source you posted and discovered that it's a tabloid. Then I looked at other Google web sites where the story was posted and found them equally spurious. That's why I asked for a reputable source. Apparently, you don't have one, and so I believe at *best* the story has only a small seed of truth, and at worst, it's completely made up. Bob |

OK, it turns out the actual NYC health inspection results are available online, and there were indeed 17 points assessed against Gordon Ramsay at the London. The areas of violation somewhat were as stated in the tabloid: 1.) Food item spoiled, adulterated, contaminated or cross-contaminated. 2.) Cold food held above 41°F (smoked fish above 38°F) except during necessary preparation. Those are the only FACTS available. The lurid posting about how people would have been POISONED and other sensational bullshit is exactly that, bullshit. There were not "TWENTY FOUR" violations; there were TWO violations which totaled 17 points. The writer doesn't seem to be able to understand the difference between violations and points. And the 17 points is an IMPROVEMENT on the previous year's (still passing) score of 20, not the "four more than on a previous inspectors' visit" stated in the story. Finally, the tidbit about mildew in the ice machine appears to be a complete fabrication. Bob |

He put on weight since last season and smokes while seeking medical help for his heart. The whole show is like rubbernecking past a car wreck but watching Robert was especially uncomfortable. Cam |

Yeah, what kind of crazy budding chef would want to work for a guy with multiple Michelin-star restaurants? Brian -- Day 207 of the "no grouchy usenet posts" project |

You can still make the same scrambled eggs with creme fraiche served on toasted WHATEVER sourdough bread. Doesn't matter on what continent the bread was baked, the dish will still taste the same ![]() Jill |

And even so, the main point was the scrambled eggs, or rather, the technique for getting them so lovely and creamy, was it not? |
