That woman could be my MIL! "Of course you do it this way..."

"Why? How come?"

"Why should I know. You just do..."

(And yes, people come from miles around to eat her cooking!)

Ahhh--cooking before the days of rfc and Food Network when
people learned how to cook, not measure.

Why wouldn't they? Just because you don't understand her. . .

Sounds like me and my SIL ‹ "why should I do it this way?" "Because I'm
telling you to, that's why. This is how it's done." "But why?"
Iliketasmackhimone! Mostly, I don't feel like taking the time to
explain to him why, that's why! Shoot me.

I've seen her before. I think she's wonderful and it's very nice that
her children, grandchildren are archiving her recipes in her voice.

If he likes what you make why doesn't he take your word for it and
JUST DO IT (the right way, i.e. yours!)?

Because he likes to pull my chain. What's funny is when they do it and
I don't bite, they say, "What's the matter, Mom? Are you mad?" No, I'm
not mad; I'm just tired of dealing with recalcitrant children! The
calcitrant ones are bad enough! "-0)

Very funny! She knew it worked, but not why. Very clever how some

Which reminds me of an old story: guy's watching his wife prepare a
ham for dinner and asks her why she cut off the ends of the ham.

"Because my mother did it this way."

Later at his MIL's house, he asks her why she cuts the ends off the
ham.

"Because my mother did it that way."

He finally gets a chance to ask the question of Grandma, "Why do you
cut the ends off your ham?"

"Because it's the only way it will fit in the pan I have."

Okay, so I've told it before...

How many people in your life call you "Squeaks"? It's odd that you
would add that to your already overextended name.
