Cathy, did you ever get a reply from usenet-news? I don't recall
hearing of it and I've not seen you on chat forever. I just sent them a too-the-point note asking whether they are going to do anything about their non-quality service or just pay it lip service. I first addressed them on the issues we've discusse here on rfc as far back as a year ago and the problems have only increased. Quite frankly, I'm looking for a new provider. I can get service this poor at no cost whatsoever. nb |

Seemed to improve somewhat after that. They also asked me to please report any (further) problems, which I will do if necessary. However, I haven't been posting much in the last week so I can't say if there are still issues with that - but I haven't had any problems pulling the headers and reading threads... Posting seems OK today tho'. -- Cheers Chatty Cathy |

Then it cropped up again, but it hasn't been so much of a problem. Definite improvement. nancy |

DH runs something called 'leafnode' for the newsgroups he reads (pulls from usenet-news and two other filler-servers) and I see that the logs have indicated the odd authentication error in the last day or three, but nowhere near as bad as it was a week or two ago; so, yes, I'd say there has been an improvement, but it hasn't disappeared completely. Thing is, if one uses leafnode it keeps retrying to pull headers and/or post every 10 minutes or so (depending how one has it configured) - so if one of his posts doesn't get through on the 'first pass' it usually gets through on the next, so to him it's No Biggie. -- Cheers Chatty Cathy |

I'd say that's pretty reasonable. But I seem to recall that you're not much interested in binaries, so why not just use a freebie news service e.g. news.eternal-september.org (PKA motzarella.org)? -- Cheers Chatty Cathy |
