From the label of NuSalt, which I use since regular salt results in water retention (ie weight gain!!): Potassium Choride, Contains less than 1% of cream of tartar, Silicon Dioxide and Natural Flavor -- "Be kind, because everyone you meet is fighting a desperate battle." I know potassium chloride is the main alternative to sodium chloride as a salt substitute, but what could you add to potassium chloride to make it more salt-like? I used to use salt substitute and "lite" salt (50/50 mixture of sodium and potassium chlorides), until I noticed some odd effects on my heartbeat were being caused by these products. When I quit using them, the funny heartbeats went away. They ain't kidding with the warning on the label that you should only use these products under the advice of a physician! |

Perhaps that's what you began to feel the effect from. -- "Be kind, because everyone you meet is fighting a desperate battle." Philo of Alexandria. Do not email if posting a response. But, I suppose the flavour is there to make it taste more salty, as it's sodium that makes the salty taste. Replace it with potassium, and you'll likely end up adding more to make the food taste "right". -- Tim.
