THOSE sound right up my street! Would you mind sharing your recipe?

My current home made favourites are oatmeal & raisin with plenty of
cinnamon. I don't really like store bought cookies, but if I did, it'd
be something from Pepperidge Farms with hazelnuts... or store-baked
oatmeal & raisin.

Diabetic coma, here I come! hehe Wonder if they'd work with fresh
cherries (not a huge fan of maraschino, but will eat them if nothing
else is available)... maybe with kirsch instead of cherry juice in the
frosting. Or kirsch-soaked cherries with some of the liquor reserved.
Oh, the possibilities! *drool* Thanks, Ravenlynne!

-Jen (might make some of these for our charity bake sale next month...
But of course, I'd have to make a practice-run beforehand!)

Hmm, this is difficult, there are so many to love. I really like
those dago sesame seed cookies, but I like the ones with pignolis too.
I also like those dutch windmill cookies a lot. Do I have to choose
just one... okay, I can eat a gingerbread girl like nobodies business.

Store-bought: Pecan Sandies, although I eat many more Oreos
because that's what the husband likes. Those Pepperidge Farm
Milanos are nice.

Homemade: Hard to decide. Chocolate chip. Shortbread.
Russian Tea Cakes. We only bake at Christmas, and then
it's usually chocolate chip or some jam-stuffed things whose
name eludes me now. (Soft, pale, folded over, with fruit
filling.)

Have you tried scorched peanut butter cookies? I have a friend that I share
a pan full of scorched peanut butter cookies with every time I make them.

One of my favorite homemade cookies is Canadian Oatmeal Shortbread cookies.
They're kind of a pain to make since they're rolled out and cut and oatmeal
doesn't really cut very well. They also need aged two weeks before they're
really good.

There's one by Kashi I like, but when I consider the price and what I
can make at home for less.......I tend to pass 'em up. I like a combo
choc. chip, raisin, oatmeal type.

I have all the Woman's Day mag pullout cookie recipes for many years,
but pick only one or two to experiment with at Xmas. I also like
almond cookies.

If I were on death row tho and health no issue, I'd order in a good
batch of PF Milanos.

Home made fig newtons using a sweet dough and a chocolate and fig combo?

Deep fried, cheese filled cookies?

The French recipe uses semolina 'cakes' but i have taken pre made simple
sugar
cookies or ginger snaps or even 'nilla wafers and made.

Attreau au Parmesan also known as Brochettes de Parme. Sandwich some
cheese between 2 cooks, dip in batter and deep fry. Served on a silver
skewer they are 'ala princess' but also called ala royale and ala
florentine.

The 'biscuit monte carlo' is similar but made with "cookies" of
meringue, and sandwiched with cream chantilly which has been sprinkled
with grated chocolate. The tops being decorated with a piping of cream
and a sprinkling of chocolate, crystallized violets are optional.

Creme fritte au fromage is made with a rice and wheat flour dough
seasoned with cayenne and nutmeg, to which grated gruyere is added,
cooked until thick and then spread to cool, cut into rectangles and
coated with beaten egg and bread crumbs mixed with grated gruyere and
deep fried.

Fondants au Chester are made with a flour, butter and grated Cheshire
cheese with a pinch of salt, a touch of cayenne and a few tablespoons of
water. Divided into small flat cakes, brushed with beaten egg and
cooked in a moderate oven.

When cool they are sandwiched with a fondant cream or your favorite cheese.

Yes but it's in German

Try this recipe which sounds realistic:

Lebkuechen (no idea where it came from, stuck in another book)

3 c AP flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
8 oz mixed citrus peel
1/2 c ground almonds
2 tbs grated lemon (or orange) peel
1/2 c honey
1 c dark brown sugar, packed
2 eggs

Glaze:

2 c sifted confectioner's sugar
3 tbs water or milk

Sift flour with baking soda, salt and spices.

Mix the sugared peel, almonds and grated peel.

Warm the honey and allow to cool slightly.

Beat the brown sugar and eggs together. Add honey and mix well. Add one
cup of the flour mixture and beat at low speed until smooth.

Mix in the rest of the flour mixture by hand and stir in the almond/peel
mixture..

Cover the mixture and refrigerate (or leave in a cool place) overnight,
up to 2 days.

Oven at 375 F. Butter several cookie sheets.

Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into rectangles or circles
about 2 inches across. Place 2 inches apart on the sheets. Bake 10--12
minutes, until browned.

Make the glaze by mixing the sugar and water/milk until smooth.

Place the lebkuechen on wire racks. Brush with the glaze while still
warm. Let cool. Store airtight. These keep well...add a piece of apple
if needed to keep them a bit moist.

I never buy cookies in a grocery store, and that means the name brands
as well as those made by an in-store bakery. I occasionally buy
Sfogliatelle from a local Italian bakery. They are incredible. They are
made with layers of a thin, crispy pastry. The pastry is rolled up like
a jelly roll and cut into disks. Then they poke the centre of the disk
to make a cone and fill it, usually with a flavoured ricotta. They are
incredible, but way too much work to do at home.

I bake chocolate chip, chocolate crinkles or oatmeal raisin cookies for
myself. Store bought cookies just don't compare with home made, and home
made are better than bakery cookies, and a lot cheaper.

Homemade include coconut chocolate chip, and the wife's Cream Wafers.
Store bought: right off the top of my head, PF Chessmen. And Oreos.

Peanut Butter: home made; creamy, not crunchy, peanut butter; big and
not too thick; baked until they're a little bit dark and stay crisp.
Lynn in Fargo
or home made Oatmeal Raisin with walnuts
Pepperidge Farms "Chessmen" short bread

Michael O'Connor,

The Girl Scouts thin mints and the Samors (?), the shortbread peanut butter
"Oreos" were great

There's a Walker's brand butter shortbread (is that redundant?) cookie sold
at the market that I enjoyd!

How Walker can possibly fit 1 lb. of butter into 8 oz. of shortbread cookies
is beyond me! <VBG>
