Don't know about no big deal or not, but it seems serious enough for the Australian Govt to purchase 22million vaccinations and give them to everyone in Oz for free. I forget the exact numbers (on a 60 Minutes TV segment yesterday) but last year, for this time of year, without being innoculated, 75 people caught the regular flu in the USA. So far swine flu has bitten 700+ in the USA. That's a pretty big deal, imho!. Andy -- I don't play games people play |

BTW, those numbers reflected the reported number of patients treated at
hospital emergency rooms. Andy -- I don't play games people play |

I don't take the seasonal flu' vaccine either. I've not had a case of the flu' since I was in High School. The two times I've taken the seasonal flu' vaccine, it made me sick both times. I''d not touch the H1N1 vaccine with a 10 ft. pole. YMMV... -- Peace! My 30 year old son, who also has the flu, tells me that he couldn't shake the idea out of his head that he was a cowboy riding the range and kept seeing a board game grid filled with jewels whenever he closed his eyes. He says he's not going to be playing video games for a while. This is the first time I've heard of such nutty goings on and my assumption is that this flu season could be an especially memorable one. My son said this was somewhat different from past illness in severity - the good thing is that the fever part seems to be over for both of them. They sure looked like hell though. |

If the darling hell spawn die because their ignorant parents don't get them vaccinated it's the fault of those ignorant (ex)parents. If H1N1 or some other malady spreads rapidly with this unvaccinated population as carriers, it is also the fault of those ignorant parents. There haven't been any significant disease outbreaks in the US or the "western world" in many decades *because* of vaccinations, as a result, the parents of today are almost totally ignorant of how things used to be before those vaccines were available. As a result of this ignorance, these parents are exposing their children to a very high risk of becoming seriously ill with possible lifelong harm, over the disproven claims of conspiracy theorist fear mongers, and are also putting the population at large at increased risk. |

True, but some folks deserve to die less than others. No child deserves to die because his or her parent is too ignorant to have their child vaccinated, but a parent who chooses to vaccinate, but cannot obtain the vaccine is FAR less deserving of having their child die than a parent who chooses not to get the child vaccinated. Do you disagree? > As for the gene pool, it > can't be improved as long as people with a like outlook as you are still > floating around in it. Do you understand genetics? Do you understand the scientific method? Are you aware that the safety and efficacy of flu vaccines makes failing to get vaccinated against the novel H1N1, which has been known to kill otherwise healthy folks, profoundly foolish. True, many people are foolish for reasons other than genetic inferiority, and most educational systems fail to stress the importance of understanding probability (permutations and combinations), but if you believe that there is any link between genetic parentage and intelligence (also something borne out in the literature), you might also come to hypothesize that "perhaps the casualties will be somewhat asymmetric and will improve the gene pool." --Bryan |

Hmmm ... What happened to the phrase "Swine Flu"? "Pork Flu", "Pig Flu"? Pig farmers don't like that phrase? I will probably get the H1N1 shot. I am around too many people. I used to get the flu once or more every year. One year was bad and decided to get the regular shot the next time around. For me it worked, I have not had the flu since, almost 10 years ago. If I was not around so many people, younger, no past health problems, I would not get the shot. Since I am older, around people and feel every ache and pain, I will get the shot. And ... hope I do not have to live in an underground settlement only coming out at night with half a brain and looking like a "legendary" neanderthal. Enjoy Life ... "They" forced the media to provide extensive coverage of a helium balloon with no kid in it. "They" did that, rather than inform us about H1N1. You should contact President Obama right now, and tell him that Canadian citizens have a right to know what is happening with H1N1 at the Minnie Soda State Fair. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

You certainly seem ignorant of the fact that since April 86 children in the USA have died from the H1N1 virus. You seem to think this is humorous, and that you feel the need to joke about something so serious. It was our health officials that concluded the virus is now targeting children in the US much more than it is adults. |
