Default Gourmet magazine: the nerve!

I can't believe that I received my November issue of Gourmet, packaged
as usual in plastic so they can throw in a few loose ads. What are
they trying to sell me this month? A 12 month gift subscription for
$16, plus a $4 subscription for me, so $20 for both of us to get 12
issues. 12 issues of what? I ask. November is the final issue of
Gourmet. And I think I have a lifetime subscription to Bon Appetit; it
never stops coming and I never get a bill, so I don't need the
rollover months.

Nice move, Conde Nast.

I noticed the same thing when I received the November issue of Gourmet
the other day. In defence of Gourmet and other magazines, their issues
are published a month or two or longer in advance and the mailing labels
even before then. At least that's how I understand it works. Conde
Nast's decision to cease publication of Gourmet was most likely made
after the November issue was all ready for distribution. That's my
guess and I'm sticking with it ;>>

I agree - it was most likely packaged before the decision to close
shop was made.

Still makes it very ironic though, eh?

Still, you can count on the fingers of one hand of Jim Anderson, how
many of those people will be able to get a refund of their money after
they send in a renewal for a magazine that has already published their
final issue.

:-(

Jim Anderson, if you remember, lost both hands due to an unfortunate
industrial accident five years ago.

:-( :-(

(I just made up that story.)
