Mom has made the menu for this year and I'm contributing the following:
Not your mama's green bean casserole - Alton Brown http://tinyurl.com/y9jta44 Mashed tators - she wanted to do creamy garlic mashed tators but I talked her out of it. That's one thing I like plain with turkey. Many of our family do, and I don't want this year to start something new. Stuffed celery - probably will use jarred pimento spread unless someone has a tasty recipe Mixed nuts |

Chop up dried cranberries and nuts, mix with some cream cheese and use that to stuff your celery sticks. OMG, it's sooo good! -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

OMG, it's sooo good! That does sound good. Maybe I'll do a few different kinds of spreads. |

It's just eyeballed and approximate. My filling is mainly cranberry and nuts. The cream cheese just holds it together. 1/2 - 3/4 C each of dried cranberries and toasted pecans or walnuts ground in your mini processor. Add the grated zest of one small orange. Mix thoroughly with one 8 oz package cream cheese. Stuff celery stalks and refrigerate until serving. Cut each stalk in thirds and arrange on a platter to serve. -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

Update: I threw the cranberries and toasted pecans in the food processor and made them a coarse grind. Combined the mixture with 8 oz of softened cream cheese, more like 1/4 C of concentrate and stuffed celery with it. DEVINE! I'm doing it for the next holiday party I need to bring something to. |

I know how annoying it is to misplace things. I didn't realize I posted that way back in 2005 - which was two dead hard drives ago. I finally got smart, thanks to sky constantly prodding me, and bought an external drive. Now that my current (tower) HD is not working, I haven't lost many if any recipes. I think I actually did a back up a couple of days before. So thanks again and thanks for your update too! -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

Been there, done that. 26 years of Navy moves. Most recent, came back 1OCT07 stateside with goods in shipment from Japan. We'd actually had a break on the 5 month shipment time by advancing 1 partial order 3 months before and 'did without' for a bit there. I had left just enough in storage stateside, to make it work. That was delivered late October. The main stuff, got here early in mid-December having been packed out in early September. I must have hit it just right to get it early. |

I don't even know how I'm going to cook this year. I'm taking 3 classes - one just this week with a cert test at the end, and we have a pot luck at work Thursday when I get back, one every Saturday morning for 10 weeks that ends the week after Thanksgiving, and my uni class that is nearly everyday until the second week in December when I have finals. I'm too old for this. |

I'm too old for this. Make it easy on yourself, Cheryl. If you make a turkey, do the stuffing separately... and honestly, I think you should consider one of those turkey rolls. It's boneless and has both white and dark meat. I've had it a couple of times in the past and frankly I don't understand why people fun of them. AFAIWC it tasted fine. Both white and dark meats were juicy but well cooked. Do you have kids? If so, I watched Food Network tonight and there was a dressing recipe kids would love to help you with. FN didn't put it up on their website, but basically it was a sausage ball that had been baked in the oven until done, then they molded stuffing around it and fried until crispy. If I did it, I'd bake it.... but that's me. In some areas, you don't even need to make cranberry sauce. My DD has a market close to her that makes cranberry sauce better than "Mom's", so she brings a container every Thanksgiving. -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

I always joked that I wanted to ask the movers to just let me know at the outset what they were going to steal so I could start my claim list. Otherwise it can be years later and you'd scratch your head and wonder "Didn't I used to have...." |
