Hello All!
Once in a while I read notes on Marmite and Vegemite. I've even seen Marmite in the supermarket here but DC is a cosmopolitan area. The Washington Post has a not very serious article http://tinyurl.com/y9bgdaw on a book by an enthusiast for Marmite where it is said that it and Vegemite are the same. Perhaps, British and Australian readers would comment? I did once try Marmite but I see no reason to try again. -- James Silverton Potomac, Maryland Email, with obvious alterations: not.jim.silverton.at.verizon.not |

If you need to try something that tastes of heaven, whilst giving you that much needed Vitamim B kick after a hard night out....... seek out PROMITE. If you don't believe me, just ask "cshenk"........ not that she needs it after a hard night out...... she just likes the taste!! -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia If we are not meant to eat animals, why are they made of meat? |

I thought my question was quite valid and should merit a brief answer. It is quite an event if any at all of those peculiar pastes appear in a US supermarket. -- James Silverton Potomac, Maryland Email, with obvious alterations: not.jim.silverton.at.verizon.not |

It is indeed valid, and interesting in that most US food operations seem to think that buying one of the three and shelving it fulfills their duty to these delicious yeast blends. I have seen Marmite and Vegemite together in a Publix, of all things, and in a few World Markets. I have never seen Promite, no loss there. Many websites of course have all three for sale, particularly the Australian supplies sites, and some of these allow the enlargement of the labels. To make it even more interesting Marmite, originally a British blend, is made in Australia also and doubtless tastes different from the original. pavane |

At one time I had all three (Promite, Vegemite & Marmite) and tasted them against each other quite a few times. Vegemite nearly always won, with Marmite a poor second and Promite consistently losing. YMMV. pavane |
