![]() Just in the event anyone cares, on tonight's 20/20 they have a piece on cooking in teflon pans. And while I'm at it, the current Christmas issue of Consumer Reports covers a number of kitchen appliances. This public service announcement has been brought to you by: nancy |

They claim that the Teflon can never get hot enough in normal use, which has been proved as being wrong. |

Bird owners can't keep birds in the part of the house where the kitchen is if they use Teflon pans. Most of the non-stick pans today are Silverstone, Inovexx (sp) or similar, not actually containing Teflon > > And while I'm at it, the current Christmas issue of Consumer Reports > covers a number of kitchen appliances. > > This public service announcement has been brought to you by: > > nancy Any word on a new chaotic kitchen? Two days. That's temporary? Hello, I think most people cook at *least* every two days. Besides, who wants flu symptoms for even five minutes. Of course I will have to wait to see the whole show. nancy |

It's just that people keep poo pooing the claims and it looked as if they actually tested it. I do think I have a teflon pan, it was one of a set of two. The smaller one gave off awful fumes when bananas with brown sugar was cooked in it. I tossed it and bought an All Clad to replace it. Cost a bundle, but I don't worry about the surface with metal untensils. I should look up what the nonstick coating is made of. > Most of the non-stick pans today are Silverstone, Inovexx (sp) or similar, not > actually containing Teflon > > > > > And while I'm at it, the current Christmas issue of Consumer Reports > > covers a number of kitchen appliances. > > > > This public service announcement has been brought to you by: > > > > nancy > > Any word on a new chaotic kitchen? > > BOB InTroubleNow (SLAP) nancy |

Perhaps the effects are not felt by everyone or maybe inhaling the fumes from overheated Teflon doesn't happen to people who cook in a well ventilated environment. I have been using Teflon coated cookware for many years (mostly Silverstone) and I don't recall ever feeling any ill effects, but than again, I tend to avoid overheating my cookware. Barbara Walters is talking about this right now on 20-20 as I am writing this posting. |

Applied using a 2-step process to make it stick to the pan better, and to make it bumpy so it sticks to the food less, than a flat coating of Teflon. But it's still teflon. I still won't use metal utensils in mine. And the only time I ever got a teflon pan hot enough to react with anything, the coating melted and I threw it out. --Blair "It wasn't my fault." |

I just read about that in the paper,...when a flu strain changes or mutates, it's called a shift, and doctors believe that the original strain and the shift strain will both respond to the current vaccine in the same way, so no prob. All the manufacturers can do is take some hopefully-educated guesses. However on our news, it was said that multiple strains are showing up, so some of us might still luck out. In the mean time, get plenty of rest and decent food, stay out of crowds and wash hands as often as possible, particularly after going out into public. |

Since the vaccine will share at least some antigens (the virus undergoes antigenic drift,) at least there will be some protection to lessen symptoms. The nasal vaccine should not be used in patients that are immunocompromised. Richard -- "..A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti..." The shot doesn't hurt at all and I never get flu symtoms or my hubby either, but some of the guys that work with my husband were off work a week with flu after getting the shot. It may be they came in contact with A-Fujian at the same time as they got the shot, which would account for the illness. |
