Default Dressing in a Crockpot

Have any of you tried it? It's always a hassle at Thanksgiving to get
everything baked and served at same time. I've read that you can fix dressing
in a crockpot but have never tried it. Any thoughts?

Sure - here's a recipe.

Note I have not made this but I probably will then transfer it to a pan to
brown the top while the turkey is resting.

Dimitri

Crock-pot stuffing

2 c. chopped onion
2 c. chopped celery
1/4 c. dried parsley
1 c. margarine
1 (14 oz.) pkg. seasoned stuffing
2 (4 oz.) cans mushrooms
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
2 beaten eggs
3-3 1/2 c. chicken broth

Sauté onion, celery, parsley and butter. In a large bowl put stuffing,
mushrooms and sautéed onion, celery and parsley. Combine mushroom and
celery soups, eggs and chicken broth. Mix everything together. Put in a 3
1/2 quart crock pot. Cook on high for 45 minutes. Then on low for 4-8
hours. Serves 10-12.

I have not tried making it in a crockpot. I think its an excellent idea
though.
Of course put what you can in the turkey first. And yes it is safe, just be
sure to stuff the turkey right before it goes in to the oven. Don't let it
sit around with the stuffing in it.

Barbara

Are you kidding? - Cream of Mushroom, Tomato beef broth and chicken broth
are never out of stock in the pantry. Neither is dry onion soup mix. After
all sometimes you have to have a chuck pot roast with the afore mentioned
canned soups.

I even eat Oscar Meyer bologna sandwiches with a Chivas on the rocks.

While I like the idea of crock pot stuffing the above recipe seems to have
about the same amount of bread crumbs as liquid, which would give you a
stuffing of oatmeal consistency. Way too runny for me.

Obviously a man of refined taste. I love Chivas Regal on the rocks myself.
And a good boloney sammich. I'm glad to see that someone as foody as you can
still appreciate the simple pleasures.

Miss Jean

I have not had a cigarette in Seven months, one week,
two days, 22 hours, 38 minutes and 13 seconds.
That's 4478 cigarettes not smoked, saving $456.84,
and adding 2 weeks, 1 day, 13 hours and 10 minutes to my life. But who's
counting?

Wow! A fellow quitter in a group that doesn't have to do with quitting!
Sometimes those of us who are new quitters tend to think nobody ever quits
except those of us in the support group. I'm glad to see that's not true.

That's a great looking meter you have there. I aspire to those kinds of
numbers myself.

Thank you for making me smile today, Dimitri.

Well, the texture would be rather "mushy"...I like my dressing baked
separately so it has a "crisper" texture. I don't care for stuffing
that's been cooked inside the boid, either....

It does get easier, but the lure of the dark side is always there, if only a
tiny bit.
I can't smoke just one, not now, not ever.

I quit over 7 years ago, after over 20 years of a pack-a-day habit. I've
been lucky in that except for the first few days I really haven't had any
cravings for cigarettes at all. So, for those of you who've quit but still
have cravings, and still don't smoke in spite of the cravings,
congratulations, and stick with it!

Food certainly tastes better now that I don't smoke.

With me, it is so long ago, I don't remember when it was, but certainly
more than twenty years.

I was smoking as many as three packs a day, an avid bridge player who
played duplicate (tournament style) almost every afternoon and every
night. With the first bridge hand, everybody at the table lit up and
chain smoked for several hours. It got so bad, I would smoke between
dinner courses and if I awoke at night.

I quit "cold turkey" and that was it. For a long time, I hungered for
cigarettes during bridge games and after finishing a meal. Or with a
drink. After many years, I developed an allergy to second hand smoke,
not at all unusual, according to my doctor.

I don't know how much money I have saved. My clothes smell better and
food is much more flavorful. As far as my health is concerned, the
years of heavy smoking can't really be deleted from one's life, as I do
with Spam, so it may catch up with me at some point,

I quit smoking back in 1983. It wasn't an easy thing to do, but I am so
glad I did it.

I quit successfully on 10 Oct 1981. I must have tried a million times, this
time it worked, not with out a lot of agony.... but I am much better off, and
have not smoked a cigarette since.l

Nevertheless, you should probably content yourself with dressing in your
bedroom or dressing room. Try to leave yourself a few minutes to get
away from the kitchen. Unless you are a very small person, dressing in
a crockpot would most likely be very tight.

Cheers!
