I've discovered, to my dismay, that most of their stuff is pretty terrible IMO - and I've sampled a lot of it. I recently tried some of their fresh beef which I am still wondering what those cows were fed - yech. And then the chicken breasts which were so tough and fibrous I got a sore jaw chewing them. I splurged and tried some of their frozen sea scallops, which upon thawing proved to be easily 50% extra water by weight. I've tried their line of Gyoza which tasted like they were stuffed with sawdust. I truly regret the demise of TJs. It was at one time a cool place to shop and always full of interesting things at pretty fabulous prices. Now the shopping experience there is more of a trial by fire than a pleasure. I am constantly having to dodge employees who seem hell bent on running shoppers down with pallets of restock. The shop near me has degraded to something more akin to a third world bazaar than a grocery store. I buy only pizza dough, cheese and alcohol at my local TJs now. Sometimes coffee, though I can get better elsewhere for less, sometimes the juices which at least offer some variety. Paul |

We have them all the time at our Trader's....ask the management. They are
usually pretty good in knowing when and what they will be ordering. > wrote in message ... > wrote: > > > Every time I shop there I discover things I have not seen before. I discovered bagged cantaloupe slices. They were moist and really good.
I would buy bags at a time. Then they stopped carrying them. Another TJ opened up 10 miles away. I bought them out, and they stopped carrying them. Other chains carry it, but you can taste the chemicals used. Now, I am out of luck. |

The problem wight fresh fruit is that it is only fresh for a small part of the year. I agree that TJ's own line is sometimes less than idea. I do remember a
day when TJ's had the hands-down best store brand brut champagne on the market, and easily an overrun of one big vintners. On the other hand, TJ's has begun to carry some marvelous foreign brands, such as single source chocolates (akin to a single malt Scotch whisky.) Also, try their Plugra European-style butter. It is superb for some cooking, such as making butter sauces, and baking cookies and it is so rich that it will make your arteries scream. TJ's acquisition by a German company several years ago has changed the feel of the place, but there are still some great foods there. Mike Acord SNIP Paul M. Last time I was there, I discovered these bags of little baby bell
peppers....red, yellow and orange. They looked really good. They were about the size of a (big) strawberry each. I didn't get any, though. Anyone try these? I've also seen some of the david glass low fat tortes in the freezer section. Someone told me they were decadent despite being low fat. And something to keep your eye out for, even though they seem to have disappeared from my TJ's....1 lb bags of langostino's for $8. Those I have tried, and they are awesome! -Jen |

>Subject: Great discoveries at Trader Joe's
================= I like their bags of frozen mango cubes--so much easier than cutting a fresh one. Also, cans of kalamata olives, pitted. And their rack of lamb, frozen. I did not like their frozen chicken pot pies==skimpy and no bottom crust--just stuck in an aluminum tin. (I DO like Marie Callendar frozen chicken pot pies, at Costco--generous with the chicken and a nice bottom crust}. More later, Nancree |
