Default A PLEA FROM AN INNOCENT TURKEY

Dear posters, what did we turkeys ever do to you? We're innocent birds
who have done no one any harm.

Yet you slaughter us by the tens of millions during the Thanksgiving
season. Why? You say you want to thank god but what do we have to
thank for? Why should we be sacrificed just so you can thank God? Just
so you can stuff yourselfs and become fat and watch Football games.

Please spare me and my family. Please don't kill us en masse. We're
good animals, really.

Hmmn. A troll who's never been attacked by a flock of wild turkeys. Mean
little birds. And good with gravy.

Hello! Ever heard of the food chain? Why do you think you have canines?
For looks? We grew up in and around eating flesh, so get used to it.

BTW, do you give a shit about the 2 billions of children and adults that
are dying of hunger and curable diseases? I bet you consider them
inferior to a baby seal, turkey, dog, cat, et cetera.

What friggin hypocrisy!

Richard

When the turkey's stop eating insects I'll stop eating turkeys.

Why don't you start feeding them tofu.

Dimitri

http://msucares.com/wildfish/altent/...rkey/diet.html

The eastern wild turkey is a strong scratcher and requires a diet of diverse
plant and animal material. During their first 2 weeks of life, turkey poults
feed almost entirely on protein-rich insects. After 4 weeks of age, their
diets gradually change to those of adults, which feed primarily on a wide
variety of plant matter (seeds, leaves, fruits, tubers, forbs, grasses) and
insects. In addition to grassy "bugging" areas, summer and winter food
plantings that provide desirable foliage, fruit, and seed production are
beneficial. During fall and early winter months, turkeys use mast crops of
oaks, pines, and several other fruit-producing trees and shrubs (e.g.,
dogwoods and huckleberry).

If you were not being farmed, you'd most likely have never been born in
the first place..... ;-)

<boggle> Mean? :-)

I have a pair of Bourbon Red turkeys that are pets, and a "rescued"
broad breasted white hen that is also a pet...

I still eat turkey for Thanksgiving tho', just not my pet ones...

The hens are some of the sweetest, tamest, gentlest and friendly birds
in my henyard! The Tom is standoffish, but not mean. He's just plain
gorgeous when he struts!

Oh, you said "wild" turkeys... Tough critters. I'd rather have store bought.

Which means they owe us for what life they *do* have! Therefore, they
should be grateful, and proud to offer up their carcasses so that we
can thank God, watch football, and eat ourselves sick.

BTW, congratulations on a successful troll, Kenneth Leja...

First rule of farming (especially if you're in 4H): Don't name your
livestock. Easier to send "that one over there" than to send Wattles,
Tommy, and Hen-rietta off to the stockyard. :-)

Or name them appropriately. ;-)

I _have_ raised modern bronzes for eating and if you do not eat them at
an appropriate age, they don't live very long. They get so big they can
hardly waddle! <G> Ladybird, the broad breasted white, should have had
this happen to her as well, but with Lucky Tom chasing her around for
mating, she keeps her weight down. I've had her now for 3 years and she
is doing well. She also lays the most FABULOUS eggs. Turkey eggs are
wunderful pan steamed with a little butter. I tried hatching some of
her first year eggs, but they did not hatch. I'm thinking next year that
if a Muscovie hen goes broody while Lady is laying again, I might try
letting them set them instead of using an incubator. Muscovie ducks are
big enough to set 6 or 7 turkey eggs.

The last time I raised three modern bronzes for eating, we named them
"Thanksgiving", "Christmas" and "New Years"! <G>

It's successful if it builds a small thread. ;-)

Some years ago a relative gave my daughter two cute little bunny rabbits. He
forgot to tell me these were to grow to very large sizes, in the 20 to 30
pound class. And he forgot to tell me they were a male and a female.

A few months later we had over 20 of them. We would have had more but males
have the nasty habit of castrating other males by biting them where it hurts
most. We had to keep the bucks separate form each other.

I decided to cook one to see what they tasted like. I still remember the
horrified look in my daughter's face when I had Isabel (they all had names
except the two bucks) ready to slaughter. I had to let her go.

They say they taste like chicken. I will never know although my supermarket
carried them for a while.

I gave them away to a guy who raised them after a visit from the county
inspector and a citation for keeping livestock on a residential lot.

By the way, they produce lots of fertilizer that smells to high heaven. Worse
than hog pens.

People,

All you fellow meat-eaters. How many times do we need to tell you.
Quit falling for their bait. This is how PETA gets off. The put
stuff like this on their sites, wait for you to go off and then use it
against us. The best response for this is to ignor it or post your
favorite recipe using turkey. They don't think rationally like normal
people do. They would put an animal over a human any day of the week.
They sponser terrorist groups (read Animal Liberation Front). They
use tactics like this to recruit people to their cause.

Being a lurker, I didn't realize that this was a troll but I found it
humorous nevertheless....

Now for my response:

"As a species, humans didn't rise to the top of the food chain to become
vegetarians!"

or

"Vegetarians = Old Indian word for "Shitty Hunter"

I'm sure she was a vegetarian... ;-p

I'm sure that you taught your kids better than that. <G>

Vegetarianism borders on religion. I'll bet that you can register a
complaint and get the moron reprimanded.
