Hubby suggested I make one of these for Christmas. I was not amused...

It's all how you break up the syllables... tur-duck-en NEVER the other
way! lol (I'd just like to know where you're supposed to get hold of
50 people to consume the finished product...)

Turducken is almost a downsized copy of an ancient slavic feast in which a
chicken was cooked inside of a goose was cooked inside of a pig inside an
ox.

Turducken is vastly overrated - a real gimmick.

I agree, Peter. I've taken to wearing sunglasses all the time so people
don't see my eyes roll upward upon hearing those magic words "oh, we're
having a turducken!".

Ain't it the truth. It seems to me that a turducken is designed to ensure
that at least 2 of the 3 birds will be improperly cooked.

I suppose I can see this as making sense, back when it's wasn't
feasible to pick meat from the butcher or local stupidmarket. If
you've gotta cook it, why not have it all done at once and feel
lots of people?

I haven't tried one myself, I just don't see it as being worth the
work and/or money. As the link Bob posted points out, it's quite a
job to create (ya can't just shove each bird up the other's, um,
tailfeather area). Or you can pay $50+ and have it done for you,
hence my distaste at Hubby's suggestion. If God wanted us to eat
Turducken, fowl would have larger rear openings... ;-)

I'd also worry about the amount of FAT that cooks out of the duck
carcass! Where would it go? Ick! I've cooked many ducks, and I use a
raised grill for them in the roasting container!

If I were to try this, I'd probably choose a turkey that a chicken would
fit inside, then maybe stuff the chicken with a cornish game hen, or a
pigeon or quail...

I'd never use a duck.

Or a middle-eastern recipe for a stuffed camel.

I kind of like the opening sentence "Skin, trim and clean camel (once you get
over the hump)..."

I just saw someone make one on tv yesterday. I just thought
something like ... that's stupid. Amazing I lived this long
without seeing a turducken.

Kinda anticlimactic, yes? I think it proves the old adage "just because you
CAN do something doesn't mean you have to."
