I mentioned that one a while back, but yeah, yuck!
And I have a policy of tasting pretty much anything once...I tried it again after a few years to see if my tastes had changed. I guess they have, but not enough to like that. I think it's the texture I can't stand. john OhJeeez wrote in message >... >if it hasn't already been suggested, head cheese |

ohh..and there was some gelatinous meat containing product that my Hungarian
relatives (including dad) all love..the would let it jell up from the natural gelatin that came out of the meat bones.. seem to think it may have been pork but..I'm blocking it...they'd it cold..Dad always seemed to go to the west side market when my aunt was making the gelatin things (for all her siblings) and buy some head cheese to eat in a sandwich along with it.. -- Laura "OhJeeez" > wrote in message ... > if it hasn't already been suggested, head cheese |

COLD cuts used to be safe about 40 to 50 yrs ago ( or more??) But since the FDA threw up all over the food industries, one MUST be extra careful since! Does the word "POISONS" ring a bell?? Today's HOT DOGS are pure puke in a wrapper...no lie!! Once I found out I'm Jewish ( I should have known from my teen pictures) I NOW KNOW what "BALANCE" means as well as modern Kosher! I've been a lot healthier since. It's amazing what a bit of EDUCATION can do!! LOL! Best of luck in your quest for EDIBLE modern foods. B-0b1 -- "Beaten Paths are for Beaten People". -- Anon. |

You are getting your head cheese from a hot-dog manufacturer? Head cheese is made by simmering a pig's head with herbs, salt , and pepper until the flesh comes off the skull. If it has chemicals in it you didn't do it right. Also if the aspic that results doesn't taste good you found some other way to do it wrong. Harumpph!!, grump, etc!!! When I lived there, it was a weekly ritual to shop there *before* going to the supermarket. Wayne |

That answers my question (that I was almost afraid to ask) 'what do you mean by "head cheese"?' I had an awful feeling that someone was saying something in really bad taste... in the UK "headcheese" means something else (if I have never heard it used in reference to real edible material) nuf said.
