![]() McDonald's hit with fat lawsuit Public interest group says fast-food chain broke promise to reduce fat used to cook french fries. July 9, 2004: 8:32 AM EDT NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - A public interest group is suing McDonald's, charging the fast food chain with false advertising due to its promise in 2002 that it would cut the "bad" fat used in its cooking process. The group BanTransFats.com, Inc., a California not-for-profit group, filed a federal lawsuit in San Francisco Thursday, charging the company's delay in its promised reduction of trans fatty acids in its cooking process constitutes false advertising. The group said it is not seeking any monetary damages. Etc. http://money.cnn.com/2004/07/09/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes Dimitri |

If lawyers are going to sue over broken promises, they should start with the politicians. I'm no fan of McDonald's but this is just one more bogus lawsuit in a legal system that has run amuck. Everyone who eats at McDonald's has ample opportunty to know what they are getting. |

LOL The best line of the article is towards the end: "The same group filed a suit against Kraft Foods (KFT: Research, Estimates) in April, seeking a court injunction that it stop marketing and selling Oreo Cookies to children in the state of California, until such cookies contain no partially hydrogenated oil or other trans fat. I recently got a letter that I was part of a class because I have replacement/damage insurance on my cellphone. Someone didn't like the way some trivial part of coverage was handled and brought suit. A law firm got it certified as a class. The law firm "agreed" to accept $1,250,000 for their important work and members of the class get a phone card valued up to $5.00 . |

I think that by saying that a person can't help themselves and become obese
by eating lots of McDonalds and that it's somehow McDonalds fault is rediculous. McDonalds never in any way advertised that their food was particularly healthy merely that it tastes good. And if these people can't make good decisions about what they eat then it's their own fault. Grocery stores sell all kind of junk, should they too be sued for selling to to people? What's the difference? The products are advertised all the same. I refuse to believe that people are mindless sheep that simply eat whatever is placed in front of them, and if they are then they have a problem. -- Compmouse Come visit KittyRealm, an active and friendly Sanrio Community (http://pub37.ezboard.com/bkittyrealm) "becky" > wrote in message om... > (T) wrote in message >... > > Ridiculous, isn't anyone today responsible for their own actions? Anything in moderation is good. Well, that may be a gross generalization. its the evil fast food empires that > use subliminal advertising and supersizing techniques to lure unsupecting > people into a life of obesity. In the same way that subliminal advertising gets people to vote one way or another. Supersizing technieques to lure is effectively marketing. The best marketing technique is to tell somebody it is a cost saving measure. Effectively they are removing the service. That is why it is cost effective. > it has ablsolutely nothing to do with people > eating far too much and exercising far too little! It may have. > the food is fat laden, Who knows?
