Huh? Sounds like a natural gas/propane > conversion kit, or else some salesman really suckered you. What salesman? No, Steve, the new connector did not work with the older hose connection. It's just a propane tank, I could no longer get the old one filled by law. Got a new tank with that ? instant connect thing or whatever, it did not fit with the hose. Not. No one sold me anything, I bought it on my own as I wished to use my gas grill. nancy |

All propane tanks between four and 40 pounds capacity must have one; think that is from 2002 or a little earlier. We bought a new cylinder with an OPD last year, since the old cylinder didn't have one and couldn't be requalified anyway. The place where we usually buy propane took the old cylinder and gave us a discount on the first fill of the new one. The thing about the conversion kit seems a little strange. The new cylinder fits perfectly well on our 10+ year old grill. |

You admit you can't just hook up the new type of tank to the old hose, you need a new valve? nancy |

I had to exchange all my older tanks for new ones about a year ago. On the old tanks, the fitting was threaded on the inside only (left hand thread). The new ones had *identical* threads on the inside (so my regulator fit just fine), plus a set of larger, coarser threads on the outside, for some newer regulator, I suppose; I haven't seen one. Bottom line: Here in California, I had to make NO change other than replacing the tanks (actually, it was the valve and fitting on top of the tank that was changes; the tanks looked just the same). The old tank, if it is in good enough condition to be recertified, can be fitted with an OPD valve. I sell several of these a week. It only saves you a few dollars though, and I don't recommend them. Early, during the transition to OPD, a few valves made it to the market with only the outside right hand thread connection. Since then, they have been standardized to include the left hand inside threads to accomodate the older appliances still in use. Any new OPD equipped tank sold today should be compatible with all grills, either new or old. H |

I have 3 propane tanks with the old POL valves, and I just wondered if they could still be used for refilling disposable propane tanks once I have to exchange them for OPD valved tanks.
