I really don't know where to go to get houseware stuff anymore, they
are all going down the tubes. Guess I'll have to check Bed Bath, or
Linens and things.

It's really a pity! Lecter's (sp?) was the last good one
near me. Target is taking up the slack, but it's not the
same as going into a small store devoted to kitchen stuff
(that doesn't cost an arm & a leg).

Yeah, I loved Lechter's. I'd go to Williams/Sonoma at the mall and see what
I wanted then I'd go about 5 storefronts down and buy the exact same thing
for 1/2 the price at Lechter's..

Me, too! I have just arrived home from Laguna Beach (Pageant of the
Masters)--a drive of 1 1/2 hours--and was saying this very thing to my daughter
during the drive. There is no place to go anymore that is just a "kitchen
store". You could walk in and find everything from measuring spoons to
espresso machines--from pot lids to just the little kitchen item you needed.
I'm now trying to replace two hard-mesh bowl-shaped items I have--one is black,
one is white, and they came in other colors too. (the mesh was about the size
of a window screen, but hardened and with a colored coating.)
I have a small kitchen, and I appreciate the convenience of double-usage. I
can put fruit, etc. in the bowl on the counter--and when I want to drain pasta
or?, I can just life out the fruit, drain the hot water, rinse, and put the
fruit back in.
Oh, for Lecter's again!

I know! For example, I need one of those large canning jars to use
for sun tea, you knew you'd just go over to Lechters and get it.
Now where do I go? I hadn't thought of Target, I have only been
there once. I'll have to check them out this weekend. Darn
shame.

Duh, I actually answered my own question. I need to find a
restaurant supply place!

From what I have read recently, Bed Bath & Beyond is doing very well
financially. Of course, there's always the Internet to buy kitchen
supplies and just about anything else, these days.

On Thu, 15 July, Steve Wertz said this about that:

Steve, that's what happens when you go into trendy shops in touristy
towns (which, lord knows, Fredericksburg is). Antiques, fancy kitchen
tools, or tchotchkes--it's all gonna be marked up with a forked pencil.
