What are you talking about?? My post was a response to someone else's post
about the inconvenience of having American tourists around, and that tourism
is a fact of life and that cosmopolitan types need to accept that.

Lighten up yourself, and don't let your kneejerkisms impair your
comprehension.

LOL! Fortnum I find a little lacking in picnic food. Another good place
though is Harvey Nichols.

Hard to do that, as I live in the US.

But no one posted anything about the incovenience of having American
tourists around; only the documented spending habits thereof in a single
retail establishment. You come off as sounding very provincial.

Nah. I'm just following your lead. You were the only poster here to mention
that
Americans go to Harrods to buy Krispy Kremes and think its "cute," weren't
you? Yes, you were.

Now, if al Fayed's opinion was rally such a minor issue to you, why on earth
would you bother to bring it up in a tangent that was criticizing Americans
for wanting American, Japanese for wanting Japanese, etc, while sojourning
in the Mecca of the British Isles? Because it means nothing to you? I don't
think so.

So, who is showing their true colors of provincialism (maybe you didn't mean
to... and al Fayed has a lot of friggin' nerve to do it!)?

And we are supposted to feel sorry for Mr. al Fayeed? It's no
different than many "store attractions" here in the US. I have been
in the Nike store in Chicago a number of times where foreigners are
touring and not buying. Same for Bloomie's and Marshall Fields.
Hell, I'm from there and sometimes I only go to MF for a look-see and
Frango mints. Putting up with Lookie-Lou's is part of doing business.

Really? I've never had a problem finding yummy stuff there. Harvey Nichols
is somehow distasteful to me. It is too ....something.

Sure, it's the same with FAO Schwartz, lines around the block at
Christmas time, but people are looking, not buying. Besides, just
what does the guy think I'm going to go all the way to London to
buy? A big ticket item no less? I mean, anything he has I can get
here.

I guess he got bored playing the wardrobe police and kicking out
anyone who doesn't meet his standards.

LOL Didn't say there wasn't anything yummy at F&M; just not what I want
for picnic food.
Harvey Nick's is OK; it certainly is geared for the young London
trendies, but there are some nice things in there for the over-30s.

Now there is a Food Hall worthy of being a Food Hall!!! Can there be
anything sweeter in life to spend an hour walking through it at the
start of the Christmas holiday season. And to finish it off with a late
lunch in there, too.

I always have dreamed of having an old-fashioned Christmas hamper from
Fortnum's. <sigh>.

That is entirely possible. Different tastes and all that. I'm easy. ;-)

It's just the atmosphere and the clientele. I will be in the over-60s in a
few months. <sigh>

It's nothing that a lot of money can't buy!! At the very least, indulge

Yes. I enjoy Savile Row, the Arcades, Jermyn St. and St. James St. Out of my
income bracket now though.

I just need frequent rest stops, preferably with beer. No skittles needed
though. A cane for whacking people is useful for clearing the way.

I shall certainly rectify the problem when I get a lot of money! While I
have never posessed one of their crocks of Stilton, I have had some of the
contents of one or two of them. Marvelous!
