What RFC thang?
I just think it would be cool to get together with other Phoenix
RFC'ers. You in the area? You thinking of a cook-in?

Maybe we could do a restaurant. I don't have a place suitable for a
cook-in. Any other takers?

Restaurant is fine by me. I don't really have a place good for a
cook-in either.

I'm in. Having previously hosted an rfc cookin, I'm sure my new place
will be suitable. I'll be moving from this tiny aparment to a house
in mid August. My preference would be to wait until fall for a
full-fledged cook-in.

In the meantime, let's do the restaurant thing and start planning a
cookin. How's that sound?

That sounds wonderful! I have my cookware, and my cookbooks (only 160
of them) with me. I just got some wonderful new cookbooks, and I have
been avidly reading eGullet lately, so I am overflowing with things I
want to cook!

I am here officially til October 23, but it would be easier for me to
cook for a cook-in a few weeks before then, as I will be packing up my
stuff by then. Until then, I am ready!

Unpacking all my cookware now.

I dithered over the other "e". I made the wrong choice it appears.

I remember those 115 days. I lived in Phoenix for 2 years back in the days

Great, let's set a date for dining out. I'm leaving town before the
end of this week and will be back in about 10 days, just in time for
moving. =)

Let's say the end of August, either the 25th (Wednesday) or the 27th
(Friday). How does that work for everyone else?

Some one else will have to pick the restaurant, I'm still wading
through the many choices. I've only found 2 or 3 that I'd recommend to
others. By the way, I'm near Old Town Scottsdale.

I was thinking about the end of September, beginning of October.
Hopefully that will work for you, Christine. Do join us for dinner,
though and we can work out the details. Course, I'll have to ask
Charlie to kindly send his excellent cookin lists (needed items, to
do, etc.)

Already checked with DH and my brother (who lives with us) and they're
all for it. My husband might even make his yummy Curry Chicken. Maybe
I can talk my brother into making a gourmet calzone.

Any evening is fine, but my SO works M-F until 7:30pm, so we would have
to meet up with everyone soon after that. We both work in central
Phoenix.

Then you're near many good restaurants (not necessarily right in Old
Town). We live far southeast in Apache Junction, but driving is not an
issue. There's not much down here I'd recommend. I guess one way to
start would be to pick a cuisine, then go from there. If anyone's up for
some good, authentic Cajun food, there's a place near 24th & Camelback.

Cajun? 24th and Camelback? Baby Kay's is over in downtown
Scottsdale, and Pappadeaux is up the 17, and either of
those would rule, but I don't recall any Cajun at 24th
and Camelback...

Baby Kay's also at 2119 Camelback, down the row from Trader Joes.

I like them both, Blair, but I think Pappdeaux is overpriced, not that it
really matters all that much. I think Baby Kay's etouffeé is better.

Wayne,

What's wrong with Joe-Jo's? It's my favortie place to eat, especially

Actually, I think I've seen Baby Kay's sign there,
down whatever street that is that goes between the two
shopping centers.

I've only been to the other one.

I kind of prefer Pappadeaux for variety and portion size,
but Baby Kay's seems to have a lot more soul.

The one in Scottsdale is really small. Is the western
one bigger?

I agree on both counts, although the portions at this Baby Kay's are
definitely ample. I've not been to the one in Scottsdale.

This one is rather small, too, but I can't really compare them since I've
only been to this one, but has a very "Cajun" feel.

I agree on both counts, although the portions at this Baby Kay's are
definitely ample. I've not been to the one in Scottsdale.

This one is rather small, too, but I can't really compare them since I've
only been to this one, but has a very "Cajun" feel.

I can offer no thoughts on either, since I've never even heard of
them, but I am up for some good Cajun. You two can duke it out.

What night works better? During the week or weekend? I posted two
dates towards the end of August, the 25th and 27th-- a Wednesday and a
Friday. Just let me know.

BTW, I'll be out of town for the next 10 days, so feel free to email
me directly with a date, time and place. Looking forward to a dinner
and southwest cookin planning session.

I'll check in with Blair, but for me the Friday would be much better. We
work a hellish M-F schedule. We'll e-mail you with the results. Thanks,

I'd certainly try! I haven't been to Phoenix for many years. I'd like to
see if I can find anything I remember.

Yippee! Now see if you can drag more of the California contingent
over here along with you, Charlie!

Christine, who is already trying to decide what to cook.

a couple of people i talked to told me that Hobes has the best meat in
town; they also love Ranch Market for seafood. I haven't had the
chance to get to Hobes yet, but i plan to.

I'm in North Scottsdale, btw, and yes, it is hot.

I am going to try to make it. I have to put in my schedule requests
tomorrow, so will try for one of the dates. What is the consensus on
the dates for the planning dinner.

Also, if anyone wants to meet for dinner before then, I would be
interested.

Christine, who is about to check out one of the farmers markets here.
