Default Any RFC'ers in P hoenix?

Hiya all,

Any RFC'ers in Phoenix?

I will be in the place I said I would never go during the summer:
Phoenix. I will be there for 3 months, til October 23. If anyone
wants to get together, let me know.

And if you can give me suggestions on where to find stuff, I would be
most appreciative.

Well..I came here during one of the hotter days...I think it was up
about 112 today.

Still trying to find where to find good produce, etc. Only been here
a day or so though. I found a promising store here, called Sprouts.

Anymore RFC'ers in this region?

Christine

We had a guy from Phoenix come here in the late fall (Manitoba). He had to
buy a Parka...we were wearing light jackets. Seemed funny at the time.

Sprouts is adequate. AJ's is okay, too. Nowhere in
Phoenix is going to have farmer's-market quality on
most things. If you're in the SE valley (Chandler, Tempe,
Gilbert, or Mesa, even) try the LeeLee market at Dobson and
Warner for decent Asian produce and usually lower-quality
but dirt-cheap domestic produce. Also has the biggest fish
and meat counter in town, including live crab and lobster
and catfish and usually some other stuff swimming around.

Christine,

I'm sorry to hear you are forced to summer in Phoenix, be careful of
the heat. Punishment?

Look for a Food City, it's a Hispanic oriented chain owned by Basha's.

Their produce compares very favorably with any of the major chains and
is usually quite a bit cheaper also. I've worked at a couple of
restaurants that buy a majority of their produce from them.

Out here in the far east valley we have a couple of locally owned
produce stores, "Ranch Market" that have pretty decent stuff too.

Damn it's HOT

Here's some places for meat:
- Most carnicerias are good.
- SW Meats on 48th Street north of McDowell (2019 N. 48th St.)
- Hobe Meats, 16th Street north of Bethany Home Rd. This one's not
showing up in Yahoo's yellow pages. Don't know why - haven't been up
that way in a while, may be closed.

Hope this helps,

Christine,

By far east valley I'm talking east east Mesa, Apache Junction area,
and I can't think of a single reason for you to travel all the way
from Peoria. There isn't anything out here you couldn't find a lot
closer, food-wise that is.

However, it is awful pretty out here, a ride up to Canyon Lake or even
Apache Lake thru Apache Junction would make a wonderful day trip.

Just make sure your AC is up to snuff.

It was open a couple of months ago when I drove by. I was
going to go in, but instead I checked online reviews and
the prices were nutso.

From NoCal to SD is a cultural improvement.

From Phoenix to SD is slumming.

Where are we going to do this RFC thing?

What RFC thang?
I just think it would be cool to get together with other Phoenix
RFC'ers. You in the area? You thinking of a cook-in?
