There is plenty of room between the insert and the bottom of the pot for water. It steams veggies, seafood, anything I want PERFECTLY! And since it does double duty, it takes up less storage space than a separate steamer. :-) K. -- Sprout the Mung Bean to reply... >,,<Cat's Haven Hobby Farm>,,<Katraatcenturyteldotnet>,,< http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...user id=katra |

My pasta pot came with a steamer insert, which is fine for small amounts. But using the pasta insert, I can steam more than half a dozen ears of corn easily. Picked up some sweet bicolor corn at the downtown farmers market in Indianapolis yesterday. They pick the corn in the morning, load it onto a pickup, and sell it right off the truck the same morning. Streamed for 8 minutes, it was perfect! So who else eats it cold the next day like I do? -- barry in indy |

I don't have room for a separate "steamer" appliance in my tiny kitchen. The insert in the pasta pot works perfectly well for me. Jill |

I see this stuff on tv, I think, Does everyone have a Martha Stewart sized butler's pantry? My kitchen isn't that small ... but where would I put a salad spinner? How about that odd hard boiled egg sheller thing. Come on! Makes me laugh. Maybe I'm just not a gadget person. nancy |

Ain't it grand? :-) Works for crab legs, and shrimp too, as well as most veggies! > > Picked up some sweet bicolor corn at the downtown farmers market > in Indianapolis yesterday. So who else eats > it cold the next day like I do? <lol> (raises hand) I often cook a couple of extra ears of corn, but I still MW them in the husk. I'll leave them in the husk in the refrig' and peel them right before eating. Cold, no butter or salt. Yum! Dad has decided lately that he wants more yams in our diet for the vitamin A. <G> They ARE good, but I usually peel them then braise them in the skillet until soft. I'd like an easier way to cook them. Views? And no, I don't want to empty or turn on the oven in the mornings when I'm cooking lunch! But I don't see why steaming those would be any different than steaming any other vegetable. Just cut them into chunks like you would potatoes and steam them until they are tender. ![]() Jill |

But they wanted over $10 for it. No thanks! I don't even know if it would really work. I am a gadget person, but the size of my kitchen reins me in :> However, recently my sister spent a week cleaning and organizing my garage and basement. She made a lovely pantry/work area in my basement. It was like having "Mission:Organization" come to my house! Sue(tm) Lead me not into temptation... I can find it myself! |

Parkinson's Law, modified, reads "Stuff expands to fill the space available." I've made a rule that no appliance or utensil can come into the kitchen until one of similar size has been moved out. And I *still* can't find room for the box of saltines I bought yesterday. |
