Have you tried using tapenade on a grilled cheese >sandwich? It's pretty good. Weren't capers, but caper berries. Capers are pickled flower buds. Caper berries are the fruit of the same plant, likewise pickled in brine. Bigger than even the biggest capers I've seen. they are. That's why I sliced them. They taste pretty much like capers, but the texture is kind of gritty from the seeds, not as pleasant as capers to my palate. Just thought I'd participate in the great caper discussion over a sandwich. It's nice to be among (if virtually) folks who are interested in flavors sometimes. I recently met a woman who refused to even taste a caper from my bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon and onion sandwich. She was afraid it was fish. I couldn't convince her it was just a tiny, flavorful pickle. And yes, I've put tapenade on a GC now and again. It's better than caper berries, I think, but I didn't have any tapenade today, and I did have caper berries. Then there was the caper discussion on rfc, too. modom "Dallas is a rich man with a death wish in his eyes." -- Jimmie Dale Gilmore |
