Hello. I'm new here. I'm a female, about 5'5" and I am underweight
(probably about under 100 pounds, I'm too scared to find out). I'm very concerned about this. A little bit of my background: I have been having problems with anxiety and depression. Sometimes this makes me lose my appetite and it could be the reason why it's hard to gain weight. I'm not taking medications. I try to eat 3 meals a day, I don't eat much, it's not my thing. I go for 40 minute walks 6 days a week, and get aerobic exercise once a week. I'm still struggling with the anxiety, but I'm getting a little better. Since I am getting a little better, I thought I'm start gaining the weight I lost, but it hasn't happened. I am thinking of seeing my doctor about this. I would like to know if anyone has advice on how to gain weight (Eat more meals? Exercise less?). I appreciate your advice, thank you. |

Thanks for your comments. Psychologists don't have the same training that M.D.s do. They tend to think of psychological causes for physical symptoms. If that turns out to be the case, then great; you're seeing the right doctor. But if it turns out that something physical (and I realize physical and mental are inextricably interwoven) is the main cause of your symptoms, you need to see a medical doctor. Don't delay, and don't let your psychologist's silence on the matter make you think everything is O.K. and it doesn't matter. It wouldn't be the first time a doctor chose to pay attention to the things he knows something about while skipping over the things that aren't in his area of expertise. --Lia |

Exercise is goo dfor the whole body-but in moderation. |

>>Make sure they are healthy. Do some research on nutrition.
Everyone knows that eating McD's is bad for you. But eating only one type of food is always bad even if it is healthy food Everyone's suggestions are good ones-I definitely agree about the moderation aspect.I totally think that eating one type of food all the time is problematic but am also happy to see companies like McD's taking more of an initiative in giving us more options. |

I used to be 100 (maybe less) and I am 5'6". I am now up to 120-125 lbs and
feel great! It took a long time but it's well worth it. Just to let you know I was negative for thyroid illness and was not bulemic/anorexic. I do have IBS though. My thinness stemmed from anxiety problems and "forgetting to eat" because my days were too stressful. Get a check on the anxiety/depression. When I am upset/stressed I lose weight too. Talk to a Pdoc *and* a GP about the depression and the weight problems. The GP might not know what to do with you because most people are overweight! If that happens, educate yourself about being too thin and how to gain weight the healthy way. Read this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...39861?v=glance Even if you don't agree with all of it, it is comforting to know that enough people deal with being too thin to have a book written about it. WebMD has a board that deals specifically with people that have trouble gaining weight: http://boards.webmd.com/topic.asp?topic_id=1188 Maybe read some bodybuilder books. This one helped me a lot: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=UTF8&v=glance Most importantly, don't let anyone get you down about being too thin. I know how the "you are so skinny" comments can hurt just as much as the fat jokes hurt overweight people. You are not alone. Back to lurking, Joy thanks to all of you for sharing your wisdom about food ![]() "Orion" > wrote in message om... > (roxipati) wrote in message . com>... > > Hello. I'm new here.
