Default 50 things to eat before you die

Apparently there's a programme with this title coming on to UK TV later in
the year - and it got me thinking - what foods/dishes are there that you've
never tried that you wouldn't want to miss before shuffling off this mortal
coil? Here's a few of mine...

Ormers (a type of seafood) from the Channel Islands
A chilli dog (they sound good!)
Sturgeon caviar - only tried lumpfish roe and salmon roe to date
Roast goat (no idea why!)

Jo

Actually, I think I've tried just about everything I've ever wanted to try.
I'd just like more of it! <g>

Another interesting question. I can think of foods I've tried once and
would love to try again, but what have I never tried that I want to?
Maybe spices from all over the world or dishes prepared by the best
international chefs.

Same here Wayne, I just want to try eating those foods in different places.
London, Paris, Amsterdam, anywhere in Italy. ;-)

I'm pretty much there also, but there are two things I've never had that
I'd like to try. Real fresh sturgeon caviar, and real truffles.

I've a feeling they are over-rated but still.....

City-born Middle American without much money. Thus I have never had mutton,
roast lamb, abalone, mussels, baked Alaska, Hungarian goulash, haggis . . . the
list goes on and on.

However, I'd rather eat them and live some more. ;-)

Where can one purchase "real fresh Sturgeon Caviar" in the United
States? How can you prove the freshness?

Have you had jerked goat? It's great. The smokiness and jerk seasonings go
great with the gaminess of the goat.

Specialty markets. :-)
It comes around every New Years at Central Market.

And it's expensive....

VERY expensive!

And trust me, there is a world of difference between fresh caviar and
canned caviar. I HAVE had fresh caviar, (Avruga) but not sturgeon.

What a great idea! I copied your original list and added my one nomination
to the bottom. Anyone else want to add to it?

When I was in my early teens I worked in a Greek diner in New Jersey.

One day the owner prepared some goat face (I swear to God.) The skull
was split in two with the eyeball looking right up at you.

Seeing my astonishment (Jimmy Buff's Italian Hot Dogs were much more my
style) they offered me some and it was delicious. So tender and
flavorful.

I've eaten so many Chili Dogs in my life, I kinda thought they were
universal. Funny...

Find a great hot dog, put it on a hot dog roll and bury it in spicy
chili. The messier the better. Bottle o' Corona and you're ready.

I second the motion, especially in France and Italy. =o) I was in Italy
last year, and I ate some FANTASTIC wonderful food, there. It was really,
really wonderful Italian home cooking

And yes, I'd like to try really top quality caviar once before I die.

A roast goose. No matter how overrated I may end up thinking it is, I still
want to try one to have the experience.

More Peking Duck--love the stuff.

I've never had truffles, white or black but, some very good friends of
ours are Russian and they return there every year to visit parents.
They love caviar and always bring beluga with them on their return.
We've been invited to partake and, while I don't dislike it, I
certainly wouldn't pay anywhere near the asking price in specialty
shops in Toronto. I guess I'm just a peasant and fall into the "it's
over-rated" class.
