Did it see me standing alone? It just rose over Cow Hill. The second
full moon this month. OBFood: Here's something I posted in July, 1998 when it was hot and too dry. [begin quote] Donna took the kid to Dallas today for a visit with grandma. She called around 5 p.m. to say she was getting a pound of shrimp for me to grill for dinner. So I began a marinade. In a hot skillet I sweated about 2 Tblsp chopped garlic (a neighbor gave us some from her garden yesterday--very fresh and huge cloves) in about 1/4 cup olive oil. To this I added a generous pinch of lime zest, a couple of chiles japones, a few cominos (say 1/4 tsp, or so), and a small stalk of lemongrass chopped finely. After they had cooked over very low heat for about 20 minutes, I shut off the stove and let the flavors mingle as they cooled. Then I put 2T blsp chopped cilantro, 2 Tblsp or so brown sugar, 1/8 lime (chopped rather finely), 1/4 cup sherry, and a dash of soy sauce into the mini food processor. After buzzing it up well, I poured it into a bowl and put the olive oil mixture in the processor for its own buzz treatment. After the buzzing, I whisked the two liquids together and waited for the shrimp to arrive in Cow Hill. Donna showed up with the shrimp and a sushi snack to tide us over till the dinner was done. As we snacked, thunder rumbled and the sky darkened. We've had no rain for several weeks, so this promised welcome news--or else bitter disappointment if the storm should pass by. Donna and I shelled the shrimp, tossing the shells into a quart of boiling water to make stock. Flashes of lightning up north around Paris, TX. Donna shut off the 'puter. The shrimp got the marinade treatment as the stock boiled. I went outside to pick some roma tomatoes from the garden ($76 water bill this month just keeping them alive--you don't want to buy my tomatoes). Just as I picked the last tomato, actual drops of water from the sky began to splash on me and the yard. Rain. Sweet rain. I set the shrimp and chunks of 'mater onto bamboo skewers and strained the stock into a sauce pan where it reduced to about a cup. To this I added the marinade and reduced some more while I grilled the skewers of shrimp and 'mater. I got delightfully wet out there by the grill. Chilled, too, which was especially lovely, given the 104 heat index of the past few days. The shrimp were quite good with the reduced stock/marinade sauce poured over them. And we got about 1/2 inch of rain tonight, too. Ah, Cow Hill were paradise, enough. modom "Dallas is a rich man with a death wish in his eyes." -- Jimmie Dale Gilmore |

By Clarisa Bernhardt Week of July 26, 2004 - August 1, 2004 "Just to say "Once in a Blue Moon" seems to immediately create a lovely atmosphere of nostalgia and folklore filled with legend and mystery, and of course it is. Scientifically however, the blue moon usually occurs about every thirty-three months. According to NASA's information, after the Blue Moon of this weekend you will not experience one again until June 30th 2007. A true "Blue Moon" is when there are two full moons in the same month. When you "Wish Upon A Star", be sure to also "Wish Upon the Blue Moon" and see how you feel about this special energy. In research you can find that the "Blue Moon" has been discussed in many circles and cultures for hundreds of years. More recently songs and movies that have been written about the Blue Moon include references from a Gene Autry movie "The Old Corral" in 1936. Other talented songsters sang about "The Blue Moon" in popular music. Before his really big song break, Elvis Presley in 1954 was a part of a group called 'The Hillbilly Cat and the Blue Moon Boys'. It would seem his association with the "Blue Moon" name didn't hurt! The state of Kentucky passed special legislation to make their state song, "The Blue Moon of Kentucky."What I found truly delightful is that in a recent movie titled "The Blue Moon" (2000) featured a couple on a charming adventure to the region of the Catskill mountains; where according to ancient legend incredible wishes come true, when you "wish" upon a Blue Moon from that location. As the story goes, they made the wish and got more then they bargained for. With this weekend's Blue Moon, it is my hope you get everything lovely and marvelous you wish for. This gives an opportunity to check the power of your own wishes combined with a "once in a blue moon" opportunity to observe the way the unique moon magic manifests just for you...." </> |

It's four moons between a solstice and an equinox or an equinox and a solstice and the third will be the blue moon. You can use whatever calendar you want or no calendar and there are still two solstices and two equinoxes a year. But yeah, it's a little long of an explanation to put on the back of a Trivial Pursuit card. Kathy |
