Hi all,
I had my first "Banana Split Party" and it was so much fun watching everyone create their own master piece. They were all saying how it was such a good idea & we should do more food relatd parties. This party was easy I bought pratically everything plus I made 3 of my own icecreams. For the next party I'm thought of a "Pizza Party". I'm thinking of making some pizzas that way they can munch on that and since we'll be outside while they're here I can make more pizza on the grill or they can fix their own to put on the grill. How does that sound? What are some other food realted parties??? Thanks a bunch, SPOONS My photo food log http://www.fotolog.net/giggles |

Answers so far include a 'Babylon 5' party - but not being a fan, I wouldn't know where to start. Also historical food - medieval or Roman (http://www.thefoody.com/historic/index.html for recipes). Another suggestion was Olympics related - serve a dish from each competing nation in a particular event (perhaps guests could each bring one?) and then vote for a winner...whilst watching the event on the telly. Medal presentations at the end, of course... Jo (looking forward to seeing other people's suggestions) --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. A "King of the Hill" party, with at least one Texas jello salad. Or you could
go trashy, show "Dallas," and get some more upper-class cusine. How about a dance contest for all ages -- dress-up, too -- with a cake as a prize? If you have a large number of knitters/sewers/quilters, you could work on a single project, and have a quilting party with popcorn and a big meal at the end. E. P. |

The wine tasting party comes to mind first with several bottles of wine, good bread, a little cheese, maybe some appetizers and a real chance to taste the wines and compare. A cheese tasting party comes to mind next. Also consider several types of olive oil or good vinegar. I'd love any of those parties. One of the most intriguing tasting parties I've ever been to was in a small rural town in Ontario where they grew strawberries. The tourists (me and my boyfriend) were treated to 6 varieties of strawberries. These all looked alike to me, and if I didn't have them next to each other, I would have said they tasted alike too. Instead, I got to try them right next to each other and understand for the first time that some are a little sweeter, some a little tarter, that there are subtle differences in texture and wateriness. Meanwhile, I was getting my fill of fresh strawberries, something that's hard to do since I'll gladly eat them all day. --Lia |

Around 1972-73 we had a 1940's party complete with decor, music, costumes,
and food. There were around 40 people, most of whom were only born in the 1940's. It was an all-around challenge for most of the guests who had to research the clothing and food. Unfortunately, I can't really remember much about the food, but we had a contest for the most authentic dish and the most authentic costume, and everyone had a great time. I do remember there were a lot of hot and cold hors d'Oeuvre that no one serves anymore. There were also a couple of aspics and patés. -- Wayne in Phoenix If there's a nit to pick, some nitwit will pick it. |

Years ago I had a Margaritaville party. I asked everyone to wear their loudest Hawaiian shirt. We had Jimmy Buffett music playing all day. We served cheeseburgers, kosher pickles, and beer. The biggest hit, though, was the premade Margaritas. I filled (a whole lot of) empty 2 1/2 gallon water jugs with the Margaritas and put out ice, salt, lime wedges and a few blenders so everyone could help themselves. |

At work we used to have 'make your own quesadilla' pot luck lunches. Everyone brought some ingredients and we baked our own quesadillas. There were, of course, chips and salsa and refried beans to be had on the side as well as bean salads and the like. Alas, we couldn't have margaritas ![]() Jill |
