You should see the Basket Strawberry Cake on Epicurious. I don't
do the basket weave thing, but it is one nice cake, sound like your
friend's cake.

Naaaaa, Michael. You're not an old fart till your little sister gets
old enough to collect Social Security, like mine did.

Happy Birthday!

Happy B-Day!

And from someone there...It's elderly fart. Old farts live in foam
rubber...Elderly Farts drive slow and wear weird hats.

Get it straight.

No, they'll pound on the door two days before your 50th, that's for sure.

Have a great day and party, Michael - you've got it coming. Glad you're
getting back on real food now.

It's a large and distinguished club.

Happy birthday and many happy returns.

OBFood: The other variety of fig tree is producing now. I made a fig
tarte using the Joy of Cooking crust recipe. (Rather I tried to use
it, but the instructions continually referred me to earlier sections
of the book in a comically Kafkaesque manner. So I basically winged
it. And I used whole wheat flour for South Beach reasons.) The
filling for the tarte was a layer of fig puree mixed with an egg yolk,
topped with sliced figs and glazed with a fig balsamic reduction.
It's cooling in the kitchen right now waiting for D and me to go to
dinner at a friend's house. I plan to slice it there and dollop some
chevre on the slices.

Happy b-day a day late. We celebrated it with a party with shrimp
cocktail, little neck clams, bruschetta, lobster bisque, filet mignon,
live lobster (well, 'till I cooked 'em), baby back ribs, corn on the
cob, and way to much alcohol.

Where the hell were ya? ;-)

Hope that you had a great day!

Let me add to the long list of people wishing you a belated happy birthday.
It is an honor to do so, since it was nip and tuck whether we would be able
to do so this year.

A toast, to good friends (even if they are faceless over the net), good
health and a long and happy life surrounded by people who love you and care
deeply for you.

-Ginny
