Default My Herbie's Order Just Arrived!

Which is Australian for "My Penzey's order just arrived!" Herbie's Spices
being a similar online spice store type of situation in Sydney.
Amongst other things I took delivery of some ground chipotle chilli which
worked very well in an unlikely collection of "stuff" found lurking in the
fridge. It really transformed an otherwise ordinary "empty the fridge" dish.
Chipotle powder is not easy to come by here, nor are many of the other
ingredients that Herbie's sells. They are quick to fill orders (I ordered
online on Monday -it arrived Tuesday) I ordered Ras el Hanout, Herbes de
Provence and Chermoula Spice amongst other things. Can't be bothered making
them up myself. The spices are very fresh and hey- it's fun opening the
package and dreaming up new ways to use interesting ingredients.

@@@@@ Now You're Cooking! Export Format
Three Pepper Chipotle Combo

none

5 chicken thigh fillets
2 large chicken sausages
1 green capsicum; chopped
1 red capsicum; chopped
1 yellow capsicum; chopped
1 spanish onion; chopped
2 stick celery; chopped
3 large cloves of garlic; chopped
1 can tomato; chopped in large pieces
20 black olives, chopped
3 tblsp dry sherry
1 large sprig fresh thyme
1 large sprig rosemary
1/2 tsp chipotle chilli powder
3 tbsp pine kernels; toasted

Fry the chicken and sauages in olive oil until browned. Remove and chop
into bite sized pieces. Put the sausage slices back in the pan and continue
to fry until quite brown. Fry the next 6 ingredients until caramelised.
Return the chicken thigh pieces to the frypan and add the tomato, sherry,
olives,
herbs and chipotle. Cook on for 10-15 minutes or so until the vegetables
are softened and the chicken cooked. Add the pine kernels and serve with
rice, polenta. couscous etc.

I figured as much. :-)

A friend tells me his site is up and running: www.peterwatson.com.au.
Peter's in Melbourne.
I've used his spiced wine vinegar and enjoyed it very much. AFA online
ordering, though, I don't think it's a secure site. I haven't told him
about that (which would prevent me from ordering, apart from the fact
that we're a few continents apart) or of the other typos and
inconsistencies I note in the site. I have no idea how his prices
compare with Herbie's. Enjoy your stash!

I had a quick look at the link you provided. The site needs a bit of work,
but the recipes look great. It's not a secure site, nor is it easy to
navigate for ordering, but I'll keep checking back. He could check herbies
site for some ideas. www.herbies.com.au

(puzzled) Barb, why would a secure site prevent you from ordering?

Jill (just ordered a gift for someone from a secure site in Scotland, which
is a totally different continent)

Because I'm reluctant to provide credit card information via such a
site/page.

Okay, I must be truly confused You stated:

"AFA online ordering, though, I don't think it's a secure site. I haven't
told him about that (which would prevent me from ordering..."

which makes it sound like you would order if it was not a secure site. :P

To me, it reads that her belief that the site is NOT secure is what would
prevent her from ordering.

Of course. Thanks, Jeff. I was apparently unclear in my initial
remarks and compounded Jill's confusion when I misread her remark about
mine. I know what I meant. :-)

My sister stocks Herbies stuff in her shop in Yarraville (Melbourne) -
chances are though that the spices etc she has aren't as fresh as you'd get
from Herbies online as hers don't have a huge turnover. She also stocks
Peter Watson's products - a big YUM to both!

Penzey's could take a lesson from Herbie's when it comes to delivery. Of
the 3 orders I placed online at Penzey's, none have arrived in fewer than
10 days, more likely 2 weeks. I find that inexcusable.

All of my orders were shipped USPS Priority Mail. Guess their
"priority" wasn't very high! After the first shipment, I requested they
ship UPS, but they ignored it. I complained to the post office, too, but
they just shrugged.

LOL! I glance at this out of the corner of my eye and read
it as Vaccaville (cow town)... which is about an hour away
from where I live.

BTW: I need to visit Australia/New Zealand soon. They are
calling my name.

If they're whispering, you have time to plan. If they're shouting, you
