Default Teflon???

I keep missing the beginning of the news stories. What chemical is
teflon imparting to our bloodstreams, and what's the concern this time?

Teflon is fine to cook with-UNTIL.....................
It begins to flake off. You need to clean Teflon w/o harsh chemicals and/or
abrasives. When the pan shows wear, throw it away and start again fresh w/a
new cheap pan.

Might be both. I couldn't get the msnbc file for whatever reason.
Laer that evening, I heard that they're complaining about the
chemicals found in the water downstream of the plant, and also the
90% of the population that has traces of the same chemical in their bloodstream.

Safety recommendations were not to heat the pans or pots over 500
degrees F, which the Science guy from CI was testing at their test
kitchen, and as kswck pointed out, toss the pan when the coating
starts to peel.

As my DH put it: maybe the teflon in our bloodstream will help keep
our arteries open longer....

thanks,
