Default Birthday Dinner

Saturday was my birthday, and after a fun afternoon my husband surprised me
with taking us to Ruth's Chris' Steakhouse for dinner. Wow, that place has
increased their prices! $37 for New York Strip!

For anyone not familiar with the place, it's one of those, all
accompaniments are ordered (and charged) separately. The steak is sold
alone, no sides.

To begin we ordered one of my favorites: The beefsteak tomato salad, which
is thick juicy slices of beefsteak tomatoes on a bed of field greens, topped
with red onion, bleu cheese and a peppery vinaigrette. So very yummy!
Hmmm...I wonder where they buy their tomatoes?

I had the New York Strip, my husband and his brother had the tenderloin, and
my daughter just had a bit of each of ours to go with her baked potato and
broccoli. I love that they do not overcook the broccoli, btw. It's so
beautifully green, not a bit of grey.

The guys were slightly disappointed in the filet. The flavor was good, but
it was soft to the point of mushy- not good. The NY Strip, however, was out
of this world good. Flavorful and tender and juicy. Served at the table on a
sizzling hot plate, it stays warm throughout the meal. I still think it was
expensive, but darned if it wasn't the best I've had in restaurant in ages.

For dessert, our server brought me a White Chocolate Banana Cream Tart which
was to die for. Thin, crisp pastry shell, which was filled with sliced
bananas and white chocolate pastry cream, then topped with more slices of
banana. They then sprinkle the whole thing, and the plate with turbinado
sugar which is then caramelized. Yowza it was good! They also brought out a
slice of the Original Sin cake, which is a flourless chocolate cake so dense
it's like eating ganache, served with raspberry coulis.

All in all, it was a delicious meal, and I would recommend it for anyone
who's splurging for a once a year thing!

We went to one when we were in Puerto Rico one year for New Years Eve.
The food was excellent. I don't recall what the total for dinner
came to but looking at the check certainly wasn't for the faint of
heart. ;-)

I love that salad, too.

I've never had a filet I liked; either lacking flavor or good texture or
both. My favorite is ribeye and Ruth's Chris serves an excellent ribeye.

Always did like their desserts, but often didn't have room for one!

I agree... Ruth's Chris here in Phoenix is one of the best steakhouses
we have. Although, there is one local steakhouse that I think is even
better.

I wouldn't give 2 cents for Morton's; hate the atmosphere, and not overly
fond of their steaks.

BTW, a very happy birthday!!!

It's obvious you don't like beef... ribeye is the tofu of beef, least flavorful
cut of the entire steer.... ribeye beef eaters are tantamount to Mrs. Pauls
Fish Stick seafood eaters.

Thank you!!
The first time I went to Morton's it was delicious. The second time, the
glass had yucky stuff on it, the knife had dried lettuce on it and the
service sucked. For that money, I expect far better.

Pay no attention to the naked man in the raincoat!

AFAIC, a good ribeye is one of the best flavored, juciest, and good-
textured steaks there is.
